It seems like a _quality_ carbon fiber barrel lined with chrome plated 4150 would be a good solution for a light rifle.  I'd love to have one for my coyote calling carry rifle.

RND Mfg in Longmont Colorado was playing with Carbon Fiber barrels for their .223, .308 and .338 Lapua rifles.
