The general name for this style is Dissipator:
[url]http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/pcwa2s16d.asp[/url] On Bushmasters, there's a gas block under the handguards, with a normal 16" barrel gas system. The front sight is not part of the gas system. |

can any full sized foregrip allow this style or only certain types? Or is the barrel configuraiton different?

There is a new option available from Yankee Hill Machine Company that they call the low profile gas block. It replaces the front sight tower and allows most aftermarket forearms (tubes and railed systems) to be mounted directly over it. You can check it out at http://www.yhm.net/.
