I've got a 16" HBAR with a CavComp that brings the total length to just over 17".  I'd like to have this barrel reprofiled to the lightest weight possible and have it cut back to 16" total including the comp.

What is the lightest profile available for the 16" barrel?  M4?  Gov't?

Thanks for any info.

Same prifile used on Bushy's superlight barrel.

My ArmaLite and Bushmaster done identically by Kurt at KKF...

Lightweight reprofiles
Barrels cut to 14 1/2"
A3 TacBrakes permanently attached to bring the barrels back to a legal 16"...

Thanks for the info!  I was planning to use Kurt, but wasn't sure what profile to use.  Can you tell me how much weight was lost when you had those barrels lightened?  Was a new front sight necessary to fit the reduced barrel diameter?

He keeps it full sized where the front sight is attached.  Your rifle will lose approx. 3/4 of a pound once you reprofile it.  That is a HUGE difference since the weight is forward and you notice it most there.

As DevL said, the FSB is reused.  Kurt offers two options, one is the Lightweight where the barrel is left standard diameter under the FSB an the other is UltraLightweight, where the space between the legs of the FSB is also reprofiled.  As you see them, each of the twins weighs in at 5 pounds 8 ounces.

With the weight reduction on the barrels, the carbines are much better balanced and feel very light and fast.  That's a hard statement to qualify, other than to say after I had the ArmaLite done it felt so correct I immediately sent my Bushy Shorty for the same treatment.  My next project with Kurt will be a dedicated .22 upper built on the same specs.... triplets...
