Apologies if this is not in the proper forum section.  I did not see if there was a recommendation section.

I've shot ARs before but was looking for my first sub $1,000 to get.

Some options I thought about are ruger, m&p, diamondback, and savage.

I would like a MLOK rail so I am leaning towards the ruger, dimondback, or savage.    I am from Florida so I would like to support Diamondback since they are a local company.

I realize the ruger and m&p are a solid pick, so I'd like some advice if possible of the Savage MSR 15 2.0 vs the Diamondback DB15

Thanks for the advice.

I think one issue you may run into is finding things in stock. Given the current election timeline and one side touting the fact that they're going to roll out gun control measures, everything is flying off the shelves right now. While that Diamondback may have an MSRP of $750, you might be lucky to find places selling it for $1500. There was mention here of a shop that was selling Anderson lowers for $150 a pop, an item which is normally sub $50. Only you can decide how much you're willing to spend.

In regards to the Diamondback- NO, Hell NO. Everyone I've seen come to my range has been a jam-o-matic- you'd be better off with a Kel-tec.

No experience with the Savage or M&P, but the Ruger is a solid rifle.

Palmetto State Armory has the IWI Zion-15 for $899 in stock. It has a 16" SOCOM profile 1-8" twist barrel, 15" mlok rail, B5 SOPMOD buttstock and reduced angle grip. The reviews out there say it is a sub MOA rifle out of the box. I bought one but have not had the chance to shoot it yet. I've added some things and changed out some parts, but it is a pretty nice rifle right out of the box.

Windham Weaponry MPC.

I’d take a look on gunbroker. That’ll give you an idea of where prices are at.

S&W M&P 15 is a very solid rifle.

Of the ones OP listed, I've had
S&W, Savage and  Ruger. They were all fine.
Personally I want a Nitride (aka Melonite) or Chrome lined barrel vs plain steel unless you're getting Stainless. All the above are I believe.

As mentioned, PSA is usually fine. I only have their lowers, no uppers.

I built a couple recently, but wanted a chrome lined barrel.  There were none to be found at PSA.

I'd look for a Spikes Tactical 16" mid-length with the plastic furniture. Add a RDS and WML. Something like a Streamlight and Aimpoint Pro or Trijicon MRO. Buy as many mags as you can. Look online. You can have a rifle shipped to your FFL.

Thanks for the great replies!  I'll definitely check out PSA.  I have seen some in stock but as was stated they are expensive and go quickly.

Sold out already. It was at Primary Arms.

PA has a SW sport with Mlok for $750. Not a good price last year but not bad for 2020

Only 100 rds out of it and no jams. I like

the Mil spec trigger. I'm still experimenting

with the ammo.

Good luck

I own several Palmetto State Armory AR's, and two S&W Sports. I think the S&W's are higher quality and mine have had no problems at all.

Welcome to the forum and the world of AR's!

I ended up getting a IWI Zion for $860 shipped.  Not too bad for 2020 prices.  Thanks to the responses here I was able to expand my search criteria and get what I wanted.  Thank you all!

Obviously I am a little biased since I just bought one also, but you won't be disappointed (I think, lol). Coming from the maker of the Tavor and ACE Galil series guns... It's their reputation for awesome firearms that helped make up my mind when I was looking for a longer barreled companion to my Mk18.

I think that should be a very nice first AR

Seems solid for the price point with all the covid/election panic going on right now.

Buy a BCM upper with BCG.  Buy a stripped AERO lower and put your lower together.  Should be about $1100 all in, slam dunk better than those other MSRs you mentioned
