Are you still using VFG on your AR?
I'm seeing more and more AFG in place of VFG.
What about you?

I've only really ever liked vertical grips on really short guns. I don't use them on most of my ARs.

Just the one, because I like my fingers, and the charging handles reciprocate...

My 1st AR had one.  I took it off, I prefer the C Clamp method or whatever its called.

When I hold a VFG, I feel like I'm gearing up to do a bunch of spray and pray. JMHO...

No.

I tried several, including AFGs. They just seem to get in the way when I walk around with the rifle hanging off the sling.

Nope CA tells me AFG is better than a VFG.
Still rather have a VFG. AFGs like Magpuls put my hand at a weird angle.

No, not really anymore...as a matter of fact most of my gear is going back to basics.  No FF handguards, A2 grips and FH.  I do not operate operationally so its just fluff to me.

This is exactly how l use mine;

Yeah, I have a VFG on this old-style build. I don't actually grip the entire VFG but treat it similar to a AFG.

I never liked the feel of the AFG.
I don't wrap my hand around a VFG, just wedge my hand in at the top between it and the hand guard.

No.  Initially I loved my VFG, but as my grip worked further and further forward towards the muzzle, it felt redundant and became just extra weight that I didn't need.  I ended up removing it from all of my guns except for the shorter pistol length carbines.

Tried a VFG out years ago, and it didn't take long for it to end up in the parts box. I strongly dislike any sort of other-than-horizontal forward grip.

That thing is cool!!!!! Takes STEN mags, even better.
I have a MAC that uses STEN mags, that little thing would be perfect for me. I want it.

GreaseGun mags actually.
It's a .45

I've been tempted to build a UMP magwell for the LRBHO, and ability to change calibers (9, 45, 40, 10mm) in the same magwell.

Neither.  None.

Just a very small hand stop to position my hand to access a weapon light tape switch in the dark.

They're both mostly dumb. But the VFG can hold batteries, act as a hand stop, be convenient to hook on gear on long humps, and it's easier to hold onto when the weapon heats up. You can also monopod off it sometimes.

I have one on a couple rifles.

Well, NY tells us that they're all evil!

Of course, they tell us a lot of crazy bulls**t.

I do have an index tab (couldn't possibly grip it) from a handstop kit to keep my hand where it needs to be to use my weapon light (warning: may offend some posters' fragile sensibilities):

I see, STEN mags look almost identical. I would need a new collection of mags and ammo but I still want it. Very neat little gun!

Dude chill. The VFG makes it too "assaulty". We can't have that in our great state.

Your 5.56mm projectile at 3100fps is cool, but that VFG...

Never cared for or used them in the past. After breaking both wrists in an accident I now find a short VFG helps a lot.  That being said,  I only have one on my carbine.

vfg Are superior to afg for most combat related applications. They are more versatile and allow for a greater degree of mobility. Square up and bring the rifle to the center of the chest and you have cqb/building clearing. Extend the stock and blade out a bit and use it as a hand stop for longer engagements. Hook it on your gear for longer humps. Battery storage options or options that allow you to build your light/peq switches into them.

Afg really shine for competition shooting/comfortable range shooting.

I think it’s a matter of personal preference and not one is superior over the other.  I do all you say with in AFG and run the rifle faster then with a VFG.

How do AFG shine in comp shooting that don’t merit tactical / combat use ?

i know right? vertical grips are easy

you just make a fist with your hand and hold it out in front of you

angled grips are weird, i don't do anything with my hand tilted forward

that's like holding your fist out in front of you and then letting it go limp

that's weak and weird

Yep, only on my 16" "tac" upper and only for general shooting sessions. When I need to bang steel at distances over 300yds., then the bi-pod gets deployed. 10RING

It comes down to understanding body mechanics. For example, c-clamping it a terrible way to clear a building. Mobility restrictions become more and more pronounced as you begin to add gear to the equation. Even without gear you can test this. Square up to the target (feet included). A right handed shooter with c clamp is going to have loads of movement to th left, and very restricted movement to the right unless you shift your feet. Move hand back and underneath gripping the vfg as intended and you will find much better mobility. Inside a building this increased mobility becomes more important as all the extra gear carried takes up operating space. Compound that with working with others and you quickly find out that the tighter you are the more mobile you are and the more effective you are inside that building. (Side note-I treat c-clamp and afg the same so use them interchangeably. I’m on my phone and don’t feel like retyping all this to separate the two)

Once outside the building extend the stock, punch your hand out, blade your body slightly for a better platform, and you can use the vfg as an afg.

The higher versatility of the vfg is what makes it supperior.

An important note-the tactics described are heavily geared toward combat style use and cqb. for basic self defense ymmv and you need to use what you can use comfortably and effectively.

Yep.

Looks ridiculous. But, I cut it down, since I use it as if it's an AFG. I like it much more than any AFG that I've tried. I have the same one ( Blackhawk! ) on several rifles.

Eta: sorry for the tater pic. I really need to get some proper family photos.
