Not really on a budget, but cost could sway me.

I have a Spikes 556 receiver coming in and am looking for a 16-18" upper with a full length quad rail (a bottom keymod wouldn't be a bad thing).

I have narrowed it down to

Noveske
Rainier (the second cheapest)
Syrac (the cheapest)
The new VLOTR slimline thingy
Other?

Any other suggestions?

This would be used with an Eotech holographic sight for target and varmit at 25-100 yards, so barrel twist is also a minor consideration.

What's an 18 inch barrel going to do for you at 100 yards?

SR15 Mod 1 upper.

But really almost anything will be good at 25-100 yrds.

I think that 16" is getting to be on the short end for 556, I like the extra velocity you get for heavier bullets with a long barrel.

I also like being able to throw a QR scope on it and switching to long range 250-350 yards if need be.

18" is the perfect balance without being too long or too heavy.

You get very little gains on an 18" over a 16" especially with heavier bullets.

Sounds like you need 2 rifles.

16" ARP barrel mid length, fluted socom profile 1/8 twist
CMT Tactical upper
not too heavy just over 8lbs with scope and buis for complete rifle
I've only had it out once, but was very pleased
Great barrel at $260

If You are only going to 350 max, You could do that with a 11.5 or 12.5

I'd go 14.5 pinned.

18in is WAY heavy and unbalanced once You get used to a 14.5
