I've never been turned on by the idea of the AR pistol. Too awkward and clunky for me.

They're fun and (IMO) practical.  I've got AR pistols and a SBR.  I take the pistols out *WAY* more often.  I can do almost anything I'd want w/ the SBR w/ a pistol and don't have to worry about keeping it under my possession like a NFA item.  If I want to loan it to a friend a pistol is fine.  If I'm travelling a pistol works great and I don't have to worry about getting called out of state when I've got it in the car.

Agreed.  I thought the pistol was really an option for those not legally permitted to have an SBR.  Or those that wanted the short barrel first then go through the ATF paperwork to put a stock on it.

They're a good placeholder for your SBR upper while waiting for your stamp.

If you live where you cannot have SBR's then an AR pistol can be fun.
But an SBR is much more controllable.

Can you put a stock on an ar pistol.

If you put a stock on an AR pistol, it then becomes a SBR.

Correct and costs $200 for the stamp.

I understand that, but was i was saying is are they capable of mounting a stock on one (after you have paid the 200.00 tax stamp). what is involved in puting a stock on one, just change the buffer tube.

That is correct, the only physical change would be to change out the buffer tube.  Depending on what route you go in registering it into an SBR, you may also have to have it engraved.

Seems like a novelty to me without FA.

How controllable would that without a stock?

I'd like one.  If they would stop saying a verticle forgrip makes it an AOW I'd probably even consider spending money on it.
