We police our brass on our range. It's not difficult to find brass in low cut grass & raked gravel.

I'm out of shape so I use brass scavenging as exercise. "...and bend and stretch pickup 1,2,3, 4 ...."

At the covered benches, I staple up see-thru debris netting and let it fall into an open soft case. I get the netting from elevator guys at work...kind of looks like snow drift netting but finer.I do this out of courtesey to other shooters, as well.
On a less formal range I just pick it up. |

Brass catcher.
Works fine. I shoot a Prone Centerfire Rifle match, so the catcher keeps the hot brass off the competitor next to me. |

Mixed feelings with the brass catcher as it does cause occasional FTF.
I guess my vote is: I've used one and they suck. |

I manufactured my own that mounts to my Larue rails. Worked great, but I need to find a better bag to catch the brass as the hot brass melted some of the netting I used.
They work great when shooting several hundreds of rounds a day. |

I do use a brass catcher, but when I'm doing mag function tests, I don't use it. Why? Because occasionally when using the brass catcher, a spent case bounces off the inside wall of the catcher, and flies back into the ejection port, jamming the gun. Okay for practice, but not when I'm testing mags with near-unreplaceable factory ammo. :(
