My definitions are based on military SPRs and recces such as the Mk12 SPR family and the SEAL/CAG recce rifles we've seen. IMHO, those are the rifles that established both concepts in my book, so those are the standards I acknowledge.

The SPR fills a very specific role whereas the recce is more of a jack-of-all-trades gun. You can kick doors and clear rooms, AND hit targets out to 650ish with a recce; I personally would hate to have to clear rooms with an SPR.

Nice descriptions. I agree, but since the NF 2.5-10x24 seems to have been used on a lot of .mil recce's isn't 10x and under a better criteria?

I don't think I'd argue against that, I suppose.

It has begun. I'll be swapping this barrel out with the Bison recon when it arrives. The entire rig will be getting a makeover in the khaki, field drab, and earth brown variety when completed.

Oh I like that.. "Mk 12 K". This rig is definitely inspired by the Mk 12 but without the pressure of clone correct parts. I also think the A1 stock looks the most appropriate on the setup.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sold on them. I got into them after getting a couple micoMOA GB's because they clear the GB. I run this one and one on my SBR. I tend to throw my stuff around and treat it like a tool and these haven't been a problem yet. I have several NSR's by way of comparison. What I really like which these is the integral sling swivels.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything "wrong" with them.

I think it's pretty much the epitome of what a precision 5.56 AR should look like.  Except your missing a leather sling.    And maybe cover up that barrel.  It's hurting my eyes.  LOL.  Just kidding.  I love that build.  I might have to put my fixed stock on my recce too again.  My only thing is if the kids shoot it, it might be kind of long for them....  And the eye relief.

Scope is too far forward.  It was like that when I though you HAD to shoot NTCH.

Looking forward to the end result.....

Mine is definitely dated. LOL.  Plus I have too much cheap stuff for it to be considered cool.  I did replace the UTG rail covers with magpul ones finally.  I'll be honest, I'm not sure the magpul ones are much better.  LOL.  They do have a bit better grippiness to them.  And they seemed like they might latch on a bit better.  But I'm not sure it translates to much.  If I ran that gun hard with either of them I'd probably have to wrap some tape around them to keep them put.

It was a pricey upper though.  All WOA.  And yeah, that mount is solid.   But again, I'm not really sure if you're giving up anything in comparison (with your scope mount).......  Except the name.

You'll have to let us know how the Bison shoots! I've been really happy with my Recon. I've only got  Leupy 1-4 so I haven't shot for groups with it but its been awesome on steel at distance.

Made a few changes. Swapped the tac-con for a LaRue MBT, Spikes LW-19 barrel for a Ballistic Advantage 16" Hanson profile barrel, Sopmod for a Strike Industries Viper stock (seems to play well with plates), and the otal-c was replaced with a cqbl-1.

Hoping to get out this weekend and see how the barrel performs.

Any suggestions for a muzzle device?  I've never tried a brake because I've always been told the trades off aren't worth it; I've always used birdcages.  I've been on a tear lately finishing this build.  New grip, VFG, m600, sr07.  Just need an offset mount and a muzzle device to play with.

Intended use? Are you eventually going to run suppressed? Do a lot of shooting courses?
Ive used A2 FHs as my go to muzzle device, but I will be running suppressed here shortly, and I use a Saker muzzle brake. Controllability is a lttle bit better, but when you have bipods on the end of your gun, you dont really need a muzzle brake for that purpose; I just like the idea of using a muzzle brake with a can as a "sacrificial baffle". Brakes create a concussive blast, especially indoors, which is not the best for other shooters if theyre in close proximity.

Agreed. I only run brakes for suppressor usage. I'd just use an A2 and call it a day. Brakes suck when not under a can.

This is one of my all-time favorites.  I dig it.

Cheers

I wish more of these photos listed the rifle specs, particularly the glass being used. Hard to ID some of the scopes, especially for someone like myself who is new to magnified optics.

Thanks guys. I just started a RECCE build on a whim cause I'm getting tired of SBRs (I know, crazy right??) and stumbled across a good deal on a 16" BCM upper with a FDE Daniel Defense RIS II rail. Thinking it's going to be pretty sweet but am having a hell of a time figuring out which scope to put on it. There are SO damn many low/medium magnification scopes out there.
