I am thinking about getting an RRA Upper, and will probably be firing 5000-10000 rounds/year through it. So, should I get the standard or chrome barrel? Looking for standard accuracy, mostly close quarters, so extreme precision is not a factor. Thanks in advance.

I got a standard....wish I got the chrome lining. Oh well that'll be my next big purchase.

excuse the newb question, but i heard that the chrome lined barrels are LESS accurate? they just have better wear resistance?

Chrome-lined or Stainless Steel like bigbore said. Do not get the "Chromemoly" which is used to fool people into thinking it is as good as chrome lined.

Get the chrome-lined. My RRA Entry Tactical has one, so does my Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite,......They all have chrome lined bores.

Even if you went w/ the regular chromoly (non-lined) I think you'd be fine and it'd last a long time.
I've heard of old Garands shooting fine, w/ original barrels (non-lined) that were like 50 years old & who knows how many thousands of rounds through them.

I have chrome-lined on mine because I heard that suposedly they last longer and are easier to clean.
If that's true or not I don't know, but either way they didnt cost me any more than the regular.

My Elite is not chrome lined. It is very accurate and have not had any problems with corrosion. It does live in a Pelican case and in the trunk of my car, in other words it hasnt seen any bad weather yet.

Here's what I would do... If your going to be shooting that much and MOA accuracy isn't a concern, buy a chrome lined barrel from Steve at ADCO, you wont be disappointed, because at ADCO, customer satisfaction is guaranteed...

If your looking to achieve long range accuracy from it, buy stainless instead...

yeah,that's what i figured. i've been using chrome lined for years on my various duty weapons, and my one personal AR, just wanted to see what everybody thought, as far as real experience goes, not just the theory. thanks alot guys, i appreciate all the input

Yup my RRA is chrome lined,,,

get the chrome its easy to clean and more forgiving,,, also the acuracy advantage of no chrome is not really an issue, because the rifle will probably out shoot me or anyone here in real world use in any configuration

I wouldn't compromise accuracy for anything. That's just me though. I love my RRA 20" Heavy non chrome lined barrel. It's accurate and I shoot 200-500 rounds per range trip.

Does anyone have data or factual info about chrome lining having a direct benefit over chrome-moly?

I'd really like to read it.

Push a rod w/ brush through a non-chromelined, then a chromelined.... that should pretty much settle that or anyone.

Chrome is king. If I could afford it, I'd have all my firearms black-chromed.

lol. i don't have any hard data of my own either, all i know is i've always used chrome, and it is easy to clean, and does last a long time. i don't have any numbers. although,i agree with the post above, the rifle will shoot fine either way for my purposes, which are mostly tactical training oriented.

Yes, they are. But the difference is nominal. If you are not shooting long range matches or varmint hunting, chrome lined offers easier cleaning, less wear, and corrosion resistance.

i had to call rock river to see if mine was lined or not. its not, of course. id rather it be lined, but the sky wont fall if its not. i did ask how long the unlined barrel was good for. he said they were losing accuracy after 10,000 rounds. i have been moly coating my barrel now and then, and shooting some moly coated ammo some, so hopefully it might last longer. im being deployed to iraq in the next 3 months, so ill probably take the extra money, and buy a couple of chrome lined barrels, and some spare part kits, to stock up on, ( springs, pins, firing pins etc), just in case hillary clinton makes it into office.

Yes. Start by cleaning it just like you would a non-chrome-lined barrel, only do it for half to a fourth as long. My RRA middy is the first chromed-lined firearm I have owned, I was amazed at how quick it is to clean compated to a standard steel barrel.
