Is the Vortex G6 good enough to plunk down a minimum of $40 for one? It looks $40 worth of cool but just wondering.

I hear the phantom is pretty close as far as functioanl flash suppression goes and is quite a bit less. I may be wrong though.

I agree. There was a link a while back to pictures obtained from a video of each one. I'd say the phantom was within 10% of the vortex.

I heard a rumor the vortex resonates like a tuning fork due to its shape.... sounds plausible... don't know how loud/annoying it is, if at all.

I have a Vortex, but mainly because it cost me $15.  It does resonate like a tuning fork, but I've only noticed it while it was off the rifle and tapped on a desk or other hard surface.  In the 6 months I had been using it before that, I never noticed.

But now you probably will hear it every time you fire it

The Vortex has the least flash. The Phantom is within 5% of it. I have done real tests. I think a Vortex is worth $40. I have about an equal number of each.

I can some times hear it resonating but I bet its more me feeling it than hearing it.

Yes there is almost no flash at all and it looks cool.

I use them.  Work great and look great.

Worth the money?  If you can spend it without worrying about it...then sure.  I will tell you that it does it's job well.  (see flash suppressor test results above)

I have one Vortex, it is worth the money

I bought the .308 Vortex for another rifle, it was nearly $70 be grateful you can get the .223 Vortex for $40. From what I have read, it is the cat's meow and is a flash hider. It suppresses flash to the point it hides it almost completely. The Phantom is more "tactical" and less expensive. I have a Phantom on my long-barreled H-Bar. I may switch to a Vortex in the future just because it doesn't require timing or a stupid washer.

Oh yeah, the tuning fork thing is pretty damn cool. It makes it sound forged and gives it a mystical ninja-feel to it. VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRR prepare to die, zombies!

So $25 more is worth 2% more flash suppression?

Not for me.

I love my Vortex... How did you get one for $15? Is it a real SE Vortex?

how much low light/night shooting do you do?

I own two and bought them used, but doubt I'll ever "need" them.

However, I'm not selling them so don't ask

I have the Vortex, the pointy phantom, and an a2.  Without a doubt the Vortex is the winner.  Out of a BM 20 inch barrel in total darkness there is no flash that I can detect with my eyes with most ammo.  Sometimes with xm193 there is a little but it is usually barely noticeable.
