It is possible, buy one of those $15000 drop in thingies (someone will know what they're called)  any other way would be illegal...

ETA: I think they are called RDIAS, or something like that (registered drop in auto sear?)

Sure it's possible and not all that hard to do.  However do you really want to go to prison?

Actually I go to prison every day.....work there.....but being new to this sport (no, addiction) I'm not familiar with a lot of the in's and out's of legalities.  I'm assuming now, that it is perfectly legal to purchase an auto AR15 but illegal to purchase a semi and modify it to auto.  Is that correct?

Yes its legal with the proper paperwork (form 4 i belive). Then you may purchase the legal registered FA gun that is on the form 4.

Yes it is perfectly legal to purchase an AR-15 as it is a semi-automatic rifle although I am not from GA and not familiar with any GA laws.  In order to own a fully automatic weapon you need to comply with NFA regulations, which I am told is a process of pure bliss, and the automatic rifles are very expensive.  You might want to post some questions in the M-16 section of AR-15 to get more details.

Since leaving the military I don't get to play with automatic rifles any longer.  CSP
