Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - AR markings

I am pretty new to the AR 15. I have seen uppers and bolt assemblies for sell and statements made about the markings on them. I dont understand what the markings are. I acquired an upper and bolt group to build on. It is supposed to be a dpms A2 upper. It is marked CM by the windage knob and the bolt is marked MPC. What do these mean? Are they certain markings that are better and are there some I should stay away from. Thanks

they are both colt's products. CM = Colt / Martin Marietta; MPC on the bolt = Magnetic Particle tested, Colt.
