What do you prefer to use on your rifle for oiliing and cleaning?

I have a couple of standard gun bore brand (i think thats what it is) generic cleaning kits with the solvent and gun oil, but Im wondering what all of tthe arfcom junkies use on their babies for oilin' er up and keepin' er' clean! And be sure to mention where I can get it

First I use Carbon Cutter to make getting off carbon build up a snap, then I use Slip 2000. I hated cleaning my rifles before I discovered Carbon Cutter, but now I actually look forward to it sometimes.

I use steam to clean then use CLP RAPID FIRE to lube.
Using steam is soooo great, all the carbon and grit and such
is blasted away leaving nothing but what was there from
their days at the factory being born.

I use some type of Nitro solvent (Hoppes #9, Outers, etc.) to clean the bore to remove lead / copper, etc. , and Breakfree CLP on everything else.
I do this on all my guns.
You should be able to get either at Wally World in the sporting goods section.

Oh wait, the kids are gone and I misunderstood.

I use Hoppe's for that sparkling, see my reflection clean, then lube with CLP.

Otherwise, I just use CLP to clean and lube.

For the bore I use Butch's bore shine or Sweet's 7.62 followed by a wet patch or two of Kroil.

CLP it's all you need.

oh, maybe some nitro solvent if the chamber/barrel are really bad.

I like the TW25B products from Mil-Comm. For cleaning and lubing they are excellent. Great service from the company also, nice folks to deal with.

I like to use BREAK FREE Powder Blast and BREAK FREE lubricant/cleaner w/CLP on uppers (carrier/bolt and barrel)... and BREAK FREE Powder Blast and REM oil (aerosol) on the lower (FCG)...

Couldn't agree more!!

Slip 2000 products (especially Carbon Cutter) have radically changed the way I clean my guns.

Breakfree CLP works just fine, but other, superior, products do exist.

Lubricant: Breakfree CLP (most reliable I've found, I use this on all my guns)

Hot Soapy Water, Carbon Cutter and an Air hose.

After that, a quick water displacement wash with WD40 and then more Air Hose.

Then Break Free and a wee bit of Tetra.

ETA: oh yeah, Sweet's 7.62 and a plastic bore brush for the barrel.

I guess I'm awfully old fashioned. I still use Hoppe's #9 solvent for cleaning and either TW-25B or Tetra for lubrication. When my wife is around I use Shooter's Choice solvent because of the less objectionable smell. The smell of Hoppe's brings me right back to my childhood, cleaning duty weapons with my Father. I can remember countless afternoons cleaning his model 629 revolver, and then later his 1911. Back then his long duty weapons were an Ithaca shotgun and some sort of M1 carbine.

For tough jobs we used brake cleaner and an air hose.

Generally CLP. But, I'm also a Hoppe's fan and use it to scrube the bore every other range trip or so. I also like Rem Oil, but find it is a little too light for some applications.

Disassemble rifle....

Wipe chunks of gook off bolt.

Put bolt in "special" jar of Hoppes #9. Let soak.

scrub inside upper.

Clean bore with hoppes #9, brush, patches, brush, patches. finally run soaking patch of CLP through.

Wipe gunk out of lower, & buffer. drops of CLP on springs, pins, moving parts.

Take bolt out of soak. Toothbrush everywhere, repeat until clean.

coat bolt and bolt carrier in CLP.

Reassemble.

I like Hoppes #9 for bore cleaning, Hoppes Copper Cutter for copper fouling (make sure not to use it with copper, bronze or brass cleaning brushes!), followed by Hoppes gun oil for lubrication. The Hoppes products smell pretty nice (well, the Copper Cutter might be an exception), work well, and are widely available.

A lot of the generic cleaning kits (segmented steel or aluminum sections) are kind of crappy. Even some of the name brand segmented kits are kind of crappy (had an Outers aluminum segmented kit once that broke pretty easily). For the money I like the "Kleen Bore" brand one peice rods with muzzle guide. I buy generic cotton cleaning patches in bulk.

Not to hijack the thread, but, have you considered using less lube on your bolt and bolt carrier?

I used to liberally lube my bolt and carrier w/ CLP. Now, I put a thin film on the bolt and keep the carrier 'dry' except for a thin bead of CLP on the four rails of the carrier that contact the upper. The weapon runs like a top, and, there is no grit or cooked molasses of CLP and carbon all over the carrier. Less lube=less crud that sticks to the bolt.

Yup..but I use non chlorinated, no ammonia brake cleaner on bolt carrier group (stripped) to "Wipe chunks of gook off bolt" and as first step in cleaning bore....

ooops...and Dewey one-piece coated rod, chamber guide and muzzle guide to protect "baby"...also Dewey chamber cleaning rod/brush to get in the crevices of her chamber....get out the gunk...make her run slick...
