I am in the market for an AR15 in the M4 config with 16" barrel.

Assuming the milspec GI is the most reliable of the AR15s.....

Having owned most types over the years I am not asking "which is best"  I usually owned Colt 6920's in the past, but the price and attitude of Colt have me wondering if there isn't something out there TODAY that I could pick up and still be max reliabilty.  I have also heard about QC problems with new Colts.

So.

If you were buying a new CIVILIAN AR15 TODAY, which brand is the closest to GI or has the best reputation for reliability out of the box?

Well, I did do a search on "MILSPEC AR15" and "Best AR15".  No results.

You think 15 pages huh?

Get a Colt. Preferred by 97.34% of all space shuttle door gunners. God Himself has a LE6920 with BUIS and laser doodads. Other makes are 100% sure to fail when its Ninja Time.

Or don't get a Colt. They're all made by Marxist Mexican illegal elves for 25 cents a pop, anyway, and then sold for $2500.  Plus Janet Renowill hunt you down and take away all your guns if you have an LE edition.

If I where to buy a "civilian AR" TODAY, I'd go to the shop and pick up an RRA.

No, it doesn't have F marked FSB, proper M4geramps, 1/7 twist, blah,blah...

But I'd trust my life with it.
OK, you can lock this now.

...on a serious note, Armalite, Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, or something home-built from LMT or Stag should work just fine. Get a rifle or the parts from a quality manufacturer such as the ones mentioned above and you'll have a good reliable weapon. ;)

Colt, LMT & Stag Arms. Maybe Sabre Defence after they're proven.

Just my .02 IBTL.

Colt LE6921 is about as close as you can get legally.  For non-SBRS, I would say Colt 6920, LMT,  and CMMG Mod-4 in that order.

Stag/CMT for the money. Shoots just as well, and is every bit as reliable as the others. Cost is around $690 with an ARMS #40A2 BUIS, and has the milspec buffer tube so you can easily add what ever kind of stock you want down the road.  At least check them out. I've shot in the military both Colt and FN, and outside RRA and Bushys,  and I honostly can't find the difference as compared to the Stag.

Are you interested in getting the best gun you can or the most mil spec. The two arent one in the same

I've shot an AR from every single company mentioned in this thread and when it came down choosing a weapon for work I settled on RRA. Over time I learned that I prefer that brand to all others. Shoot enough guns and you'll find which you prefer as well
