Just wondering what brand of AR's are most troublesome and prone to problems.  I'm getting ready to buy my first AR and I'm trying to get all the info I can get.

Thanks

I've had no problems at all with my Olympic, and I beat the hell out of it.  It  just begs for more.  And not too many problems with the many Colt M16's I've fired either.  Some people give the Olymics a bad review, but I have had no problem with it at all, after 5k rounds.

Are DPMS guns any good?  Pros / Cons ?

How do they rate compared to Rock River and Bushmaster?

What are the differences?

Thanks

[Puts gloves on] I have to say that pistol cal. oly's do not "suck."  DPMS is excellant quality, minus early forged lowers, have no experiance with armalite.

How dare you accuse DPMS of being poor quality.  I'll bet you own a colt right?

They're all unreliable.

Get an AK.

Somebody had to say it.

Buy Matel, they made all of the original M16's, everything else is a copy.

If price isn't a concern buy a Colt.

If price is a concern buy one of the following; Bushmaster, Rock River, Armalite.

I would make sure that your first weapon is:
1. Factory Built.
2. Has a Chrome Lined Barrel.

After you learn all about AR15's, buy the tools and build your own, just they way YOU want it;
it's much more fun.

Just my .02 worth.

That's exactly Frankenguns got a bad reputation.  Building on the cheap with questionable parts and questionable techniques.

I have had a couple of DPMS rifles that were the epitomy of shit.

I think one was a re-incarnated muzzle loader, every time you shotit you had to ram a cleaning rod down the barrel to get the shell casing out

The other one was not much better

The best post I've seen so far today. Good advice.

Get a Colt, Bushmaster or Rock River and you'll be happy, all three very good rifles
After you learn all you can you can trade it off for what you really want, or better yet, buy a second, third...........

I've heard bad things about Model 1 Sales' lower parts being too soft and bolts breaking and such but I've heard a few people say their uppers aren't bad. I have no expierience with them, though.

M1s is cheep.  Thats about it.  hit or miss with them.  Canted FSB's, LPK's out of spec, Flash Supressors not indexed....  typical low quality qc stuff.

But I own one and kind of like it

I use Bushmaster for 99% of my builds. CMMG uppers and parts are great and serve me well. Never had any issues with BM or CMMG parts.

I was wondering how long it would take markm to chime in about oly, once again. Oly's are great rifles no matter what these guys tell you. Now a real answer.

Vulcan sucks.

I'ved owned more than one of each brand listed so far (except Vulcan/Hesse), and I have yet to have an AR with a reliability problem that didn't disappear once the weapon was broken in.  Yes, I consider myself very lucky in this (I know problems and periodic QC issues do occur) and I realize that YMMV.

For those of you who say Oly's really suck.....why??  Stuff machined out of spec?  Bad finish?  Bad service?

It just seems strange that some or you are saying that they are great, high quality weapons and others of you are saying that they are the biggest POS's you can buy.  How is that possible?

More info please!

Thanks

Oly used to be a lower quality manufacture... over 10 years ago. They use to use cast recievers. Now a days they're very good. markm is "special".  Don't mind him.
