Another report said NZ$3M had been allocated for the deal. That equals NZ$ 3,409.09 each... Or $US 2418.48!!!
What sort of discount would a US police agency be able to command with a purchace of that size?

$2400 plus per rifle?
Something seems amiss here.

I'm assuming they've allowed for extra training, ammo, spares ect in that amount but still seems way high. I'd still be interested to know what a per rifle figure would be for a deal of that size.

With an agency purchase like this the rifle itself is typically only a small part of the order. They probably also ordered mags, parts, optics, lights, cleaning kits, and other support equipment. If you throw in an optic, mount, light, sling etc to each rifle all of a sudden $2400 per weapon isn't unreasonable.
