Why would it be in trouble? Much to everyones confusion this round wasn't made to replace 5.56 except as a Special Purpose Cartridge  for use by the 5th Special Forces Group.

Remington is making ammo for them, they are also making brass. The round is here to stay even if just for the civi market. Like everything new give it some time to get up and running. Also Rem is still talking about a rifle in that cal.

in the meantime I think you can buy loaded ammo from http://www.pcammunition.com/
(I just found this link this morning)

Even reloading 110V-max, 30gr H335, CCI primers, Brass- the cost comes out to 60-70 cents a round

They must be loading their own. The initial Remington are 115gr OTM and a 115gr Sierra MatchKing.
Wonder if its actual 6.8 brass or .30Rem. Their stated velocities (2800fps) are higher than any I've seen posted for any of the 110gr bullets unless Remington has given them the powder they are using.

Have patience.   6.8SPC is not dead.  Remington's ammo is going to the military right now.  D.R. has been known to publish completely inaccurate stories.

With regard to PCA's velocity, since they are presumably a Class 06 FFL in the ammo manufacturing  business, they can get all sorts of OEM/Bulk powders that us end-user reloaders cannot get.

I didn't see what length barrel they were using for their velocity stats -- probably 24" or even 26" which would make 2,800 FPS easier to obtain.  Still not too shabby as I have read that the 6.8 SPC gains only 17-20 fps per inch of barrel once you get past 18" or so.

Maybe for the first loading (including the cost of the dies), but after that your are looking at $0.25 per round.  New brass always increases the cost for the initial loading.

the brass cost 20-25 cents apiece and you will have to replace it sometime, usually 6-10 shots is all you get.

so I stand corrected it will probebly average out to about 40 cents a shot plus or minus

V-max $19.99 for 100
primers $1.50+ for 100
powder $19 a pound  (7000 gr to a lb 7000/30= 233 loads=.09 cents a shot
replenishment of brass 25 cents a piece / 6 or 10
Time it takes to reload
brass cleaner
electricity for the tumbler
on and on and on...

prices vary this was a close guess

new Lake City XM193 is about $0.20/rd

I dunno, but unless you absolutely need 6.8mm SPC (Law Enforcement? Military???) I don't see the point.

For plinking and target practice there is no point.  But for defensive/hunting use, it should produce significantly larger wounds.

The ammo price may eventually go down.  Remington usually price gouges with new cartridges, more than the other producers.  When we have other sources, the prices will probably drop.
