I am going to purchase a complete 24" varmint upper for my Bushy. Can you recommend a high quality/ reasonably priced manufacture that you've used for this type of upper. I am going mount a good quality scope and use it for prarie dog/ cyote hunting rather than the match A2 upper I now have.

Thanks for the advice.

Regards,

DuxRus

I have a DPMS, and it has served me well.  I have fired every kind of round out of it and it just keeps going.  It's so accurate it scares me.

RRA are awesome from what I have heard.  So is the Bushmaster varminter; a little pricy.

If accuracy is your primary concern, it's going to be tough to beat DPMS.  The price is good as well.  It will take some breaking-in to get it to run reliably, but they can't be beat for accuracy.  I have a dozen DPMS uppers - two are 24" varmint uppers.

I have the 24" RRA rifle. It will do 3/4 moa with factory match and just slightly over 1/2 moa with the loads I have worked up for it.

I know that no one likes them but my Olympic Arms 24" varmint rifle shoots sub-moa all of the time. It averages 3/8" groups and a best of 1/4" group. I have over a 1000 rounds through it and it has never lost any accuracy. Just my 2 cents.

Holes on top are from my Oly varmint rig. Holes on side are from an old .308 rifle of mine. These shots where fired from 100 yards using XM193 & South African 7.62 surplus ammo.

You might also check out the WOA varmit uppers.  They have match uppers which you could use, or varmit 20" uppers.  Pretty cool, and they have a great reputation.

Another RRA vote.  I have a 20" varminter and it will carry 3/4" at 100 with XM193.  I am not a good shot, so don't know what the rifle will really do.

Call Pete at Legal Transfers.  He'll "git 'er done!"

I'm going with a 24" 6.5mm Grendel upper.  Looks promising.

I have the Bushy Varmint... Not the Special just the regular one and it is 24" heavy fluted barrel that's Sub MOA. I can hammer tacks with this baby. ;) The FF gets a bit warm if you do a long rapid fire at a coyote but other than that it's perfict and is super accurate.

My opinion:

For Factory jobs, go dpms or bushy upper period...

If you have a choice, GO 1-8 twist, because if you get serious about long range P-dog hunting 400yrd and over ,as i suspect you will, you will dump the 50 grainers for 60grainers and up.  Remember your shooting at a 3"x 9" target on the adults and and as small as 2"x4" on the pups.

Think about the same when selecting a scope,,, bigger IS better, id say minimum 6-24x42mm scope!

For coyotes anything will work!

I built a target ar on a bushmaster lower and a wilson upper with a jp trigger and leupold tac. scope and I am really amazed at the accuracy that I got out of it.  24" stainless bull barrel with the jp speed hammer and low mass bolt carrier. I get sub 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100 yrds.  The best load I found to work in it is vhit n-140 with 60 V-Max bullet.  My barrel is 1 in 8 twist.  I am very happy with how it shoots.  Oh yea I only pais $385 for the upper.
