I thought I saw an ad for someone threading and installing flash hiders... who is doing it and for how much?

Is there any answer to the "how does a flash hider impact accuracy" question?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't think a properly machined and installed flash suppressor will have much, if any,  impact on accuracy.  If the flash suppressor is improperly made or installed, it is possible for the bullet to touch the suppressor as it exits the muzzle.  National Match flash suppressors are available which are reamed slightly oversize to prevent this.

The so-called "National Match" FH's for the AR15 are a waste of time and money!

The practice of reaming the FH oversize (actually, they used a #7 tapered reamer) for match shooting came about with the M14 in Service Rifle competition. The M14 FH is a different design than the AR FH in that the opening in the original GI model was only a little larger than bore diameter of the barrel and a very slight misalignment could cause a serious accuracy loss. Also, there was a problem with it trapping water during a rainstorm, and anyone who has shot at Perry knows about shooting in a storm.

The AR birdcage-type (both A1 and A2) FH's have a large inside diameter cage and all the installer should have to do is to make sure that they are installed true and check the area at the muzzle opening for machining burrs and concentricity.

Some companies seem to make a healthy profit by naming a run-of-the-mill component "National Match".
