I'm about to dump $2K to re-build my rifle from my old ArmaLite receiver. Yep, price doesn't even include the receiver, thats "free" (yeah right ). Mostly the money is for the scope I want, a IOR Valdada tactical 1.1-4x26, at $700. The rest goes into Q-detach rings, flip rear/front sights, complete pre-ban V-match 16" upper (BM, fluted), bipod, VLTOR collapsing stock, & lower parts kit. Its a hefty deal. Either that, or a new Laptop which will be virtually worthless in time.

Am I going over the edge with this project? Anyone here have any objections to spending 2k on an AR??!?!

How much money have you guys spent so far in celebration of the ending of the AWB?

Yes. $4K in a semi auto AR is too much.

I've got just under $1200 in my sunset AR, a LW carbine and $400 in my Mak90 folder.

I plan to spend about $150 on mags tomorrow.

Going nuts. I really need the laptop too, but don't want to spend over 4k.

I think I figured a compromise though. Just get the upper and assemble the lower w/ stock, just to make it official for the ending of the AWB. Wait on the other stuff. I know... building a rifle that way really sucks ass. But since I am in CA, the only time I will even be able to work on/play with my rifle would be when I have time to visit my parents in AZ (also my rifles' home and which is rarely ever). With this compromise, I only spend an additional few hundred bucks, but I get the laptop too.

Oh I wish, I wish, I could just win the damn lottery. That would make it alot easier... or a hell of alot harder, depending on who you talk to.

you would be much better off buying a $700 rifle and going to a good shooting school. get a few cases of quality ammo a few dozen mags and quality cleaning supplies. spend time behind your rifle not installing "cool" shit on it.

I have a couple that I could trade straight across for a mid 1990s car, with options.

I say when you hit what it cost to buy a FA one then you spent too much, or if you gold plate it.

That's a lot of money to spend on something you will rarely be able to use...

I shoot my ARs (some of them, anyway) at least twice a month, if not weekly.  I also spent alot more than $2k in the recent past on AR stuff.  Still spending.

So... you are saying the 3 red lasers i have on my AR... on my RAS... at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, so when i aim it looks like the Predator aiming... was excessive?

I can't see putting over 2.5K in an AR.

That's why I love this group...there is always someone else "a little farther out there" than me.

Paladin

ps, and I am on my way to the local pawn shop where cheap lasers are sold, RIGHT NOW!

I've got 2 guns that I've got at least 2 grand into each, and 1 gun that I have 1500 into....And I own a Model1/Mega gun that I have less than 500 in that works just as good (hmmmm)......

And I own a boat too...

Counting everything(lower, CAR kit, mags, single point sling set up, Trijicon, BUIS, loading dies, ect.) I've got over $1600 into my "Sport Utility Rifle".  I don't dare tell my wife that, she thinks it's more like $1000 but hey, a mans got to have a hobby,LOL.  It sounds like a lot but in the long run and seeing as how I'm NOT going to sell this one off I think it'll work out ok.  I can use it for home defence, plinkin', hunting(it's a .300 Fireball so it'll work great on deer.) and it's fun to just play with working up loads and target shooting.  I've known guys that have spent 10 times as much on a car or truck to play with so by that logic I'm way a head of the game.

When Im finished suping up my Bushmaster M4 I will be about 2500 bucks into it.   1100 for the gun, and the rest is accessories (light, ACOG, etc.).  Its pricy but fun stuff....

It all depends on what you want, pre-or post aftermarket for these things are expensive!

My list

Stock Bushmaster XM15 $525
ARMS SIR #58 MOD and ARMS #40 BUIS $420
M4 Profile Barrel $144
YHM f/u site G-block $75
RRA 6POS stock $45
GG&G Sling receiver plate $32
Aimpoint clone w/mount $130

Plus about $150 in misc parts..

Total = $1521....

The right to own, and the option to install these parts = Priceless!

Is it strange that for some reason, unknown to me, that sounds really cool?

I find myself asking why........
hadn't I thought of that before?

It love it.  I made a deal with my wife if I quit smoking she wouldn't bitch at me about buying Evil Rifles.  I smoked for 25 years.

Spending too much on an AR15, is it possible?

Heck no! Try purchasing an AR-15 that was converted to M16 status before the '86 machinegun ban and see what you pay!

I spent $1900 putting this gun together not including any FFL or shipping charges....

Edit - well I guess I need to find another picture hosting site. Anyway let's just say it's a well appointed M4gery and I think it was worth it

Thats a sweet looking rifle.

I have something similar in mind, but it will be a carbine. Just working up the nerve to drop the cash. Me spending money is like trying to get juice from a turnip. Maybe I have some Hebrew in me?

occaar, you make a good point, but honestly, I just want something totally customized to shoot, its gonna be mostly a sporting platform than anything, I dont ever intend to use it for offensive purposes. I dont like the plain jane rifles either, as functional and inexpensive as they are. I need something different and unique. I think thats why so many people love their ARs. They can give it their own personality. I hardly ever see two ARs alike, except for the plain janes.

My comment was directed at Jeeper21, who said that the only time he would have access to the rifle is when he visits his parents in Arizona, which he does not do much.

How do you like the PSG1 style grip on your AR? I was thinking of adding that in the list, but wondered if there was any benefit to this style.
