I am new to the state. Previously I was in Puerto Rico were I could buy anything allowed by Federal Law. After the ban is gone Puerto Rico will enjoy a ban-less gun law.

BUT, I am now in gay

governed NEW JERSEY. I left my guns at home. Will bring the handguns. Need a rifle for here. 6.8 sounds a good start. Question:

Can I get pre ban features? [any NJer's out there]

In a nut shell...

No, you can not have any pre-ban features becuase NJ has it's own AWB. To add insult to injury, there is no sunset date in NJ.

Furthermore, Someone can not even send you a preban from another state like some guys are swapping now. The rifle had to be registered before the date of the ban. So you are stuck with post ban.Info can be found on the NJSP website.

You know, I lived in NJ my whole life before going to FL in 2000. I actually really like a lot of things about it, but man, Im not even allowed back now with my guns. What ashame! BTW, love Puerto Rico too! Been there a lot!

Even if you had one registered prior to the ban, you still couldn't have it (no grandfather clause here!). Nothing really is going to change for us, except we can have 15 round mags now (like they are readily available).

How can you say that about PR gun laws??? They are the same or worst than CA. License to buy a gun, permit to buy ammo, escort by a police officer at the airport to the counter not to mention get a permit letting them know you are taking your weapon out of state, explosive permit to reload. PR and CA I think are the same commie state and territory.

Yes! you need a permit.

Ammo all you want but it is recorded by the gunshop.

Prebans allowed.

No reloading, need special permit for more than 5 pounds powder.

I have many guns with evil features w/o any problems. USP9 SD, USP9 all with 18rds clear mags and OA93 with 30rd'ers.

Definitively not like Kali.

I think the only thing we get besides 15 round mags, is a threaded muzzle on your AR-15. Now instead of having a permanently attached muzzle brake, you can have one just screwed on. If you move to a free state, you can just take it off and screw on a flash hider.

How can you say that about PR gun laws??? They are the same or worst than CA. License to buy a gun, permit to buy ammo, escort by a police officer at the airport to the counter not to mention get a permit letting them know you are taking your weapon out of state, explosive permit to reload. Not true, not even close.

The NJSP website is very confusing. Call a couple of big gun shops and ask what you need to know. Some shops have a good knowledge of the law, some shops are comletely out-to-lunch. The state police generally don't understand the law and canot answer questions. I don't blame them, the law is VERY confusing.

You need ONE firearms purchaser card to buy all long guns, a seperate pistol PURCHASE PERMIT to buy each handgun.

Permits are only required to PURCHASE, not to OWN.

You can use your driver's license to buy ammo.

You don't need any kind of permit to reload, that's nonsense.

To summarize -

1. The whole purchase card / permit thing amounts to an annoyance, nothing more.

2. There are a few randomly selected guns that you cannot own, such as the M1 carbine. ARs & M14s (M1A) are legal. Don't ask me why, nobody knows.

3. You cannot own mags that take greater than 15 rounds.

4. Other than that, it the same as any other state.

I'm not defending these stupid laws, just trying to give an accurate picture of what to expect.

I forgot, the AWB is still in effect in NJ. So no flash hiders and bayo lugs.

Nope they are illegal. No prebans in NJ.

Look man, I grew up in NJ, and even after joining the service , I got stationed there twice. If you have those mags over 15rds, and an unregistered AR-15 type rifle(in AWB config) you're setting yourself up for failure.

Unfortunately, I live in the People's Republik of New Jersey. I'm just going by my previous experiences with these laws, as I've lived my whole life here. We are already allowed to own an M1A with a flash-hider that was not permanently attached. Before and during the AWB we could have up to 15 round magazines, or blocked high-capacity mags. They could be non-permanently blocked by loading a mag with empty brass so it will only hold 15 rounds, inserting a wooden dowel inside to limit mag capacity, or dissassemble it so it holds zero rounds. I don't know if the laws changed any, as I heard rumors before that the magazine blocking thing was going to be taken away.

Also no pre-bans here unless you registered them before the effective date of NJ's ban.

Now with the AWB going away, I hope the NRA helps to repeal the AWB-type laws in NJ and any other non-free state.

I was talking that I was previously inPuerto Rico (PR), and thats were my guns are.

Robert, I think those are new laws cause I remember that it was a PITA to even get a gun. Some cop goes and talk to your neighbors asking if you are of good character to have a weapon, that's bull crap. I do remember when they banned almost all the good weapons.

That's why I move from that place. It is Arizona for me when I get out of the service.
