i didnt know i lost the takedown pin spring detent and when i went to put everything back together the buffer retainer will come out when cycling the action. what prevents the buffer retainer from popping out when the buffer is compressed.?

The buffer tube of your stock should be screwed over the edge of the buffer retainer, this holds it in.

I have heard someone say they used one from an ink pen- maybe even said he stretched it to conform ?? Honestly

but I would suggest that only until your genuine arrived from Bushmaster- or similar

OR did you lose the detent itself?
In that case I'd look for it.........it IS somewhere......I'd guess about 6 feet from its last known position
