newbie here -- anybody have experience with the Kimber AR-15.  I have ability to buy for reasonable price just wondering on quality versus competitors.  I've been looking at Bushmaster, Rock River, and DPMS.

You might want to check your information.  All rifles that Kimber makes are bolt action rifles.

I was worried for a second, I thought there was another brand of Ar I didn't know about and would now have to research!

Might you have been reffering to Wilson? Or Les Baer?

Both make 1911s as well as highend ARs.

Me too  I wondered how I could have missed something that big.

Snoopy, for what it's worth, I have a Bushmaster and love it.  You'll get a thousand different opinions on this site, and most all of them will be good advice and based on personal experience.  If you take your time, look carefully at what's out there, and pick out what you like, you should get a good rifle that you will enjoy.

You guys haven't heard about the Kimber?

They bought all of the tooling from the now-defunct Altus Machining up in Windsor.  The uppers and lowers should all be CNC'ed from billet Ti-alloy.

I can't wait to try out the hexagonal-rifled barrels, either.  They all get the "300 Below" cryo-treatment, too!

How they're doing all this, including the RAS, AND keeping the price under $500 is beyond me.  I think they're set up to do to the AR industry what they did to the 1911 industry back in the '90's.

I just saw a Kimber AR at my local gun shop.  I think it was chambered in 38 super.

By the way, Snoopyoje, everyone is just having fun with the idea of a Kimber AR15.  They aren't making fun of you so please don't be offended or scared off.  Welcome to ar15.com and don't be afraid to ask more questions.  Like the saying goes, everyone was a newbie once (I still am).

Kimber is probably the last company you'd want to buy an AR from. It would be full of poor quality, low-grade MIM parts made by Chip McCormick, wouldn't cycle or feed properly, would have some sort of firing pin safety, and the finish would wear off after a few hundred rounds.

My Kimber shoots like a champ, I have never had a problem with it and I am by no means a clean freak. I have seen many other High end pistols and High end .45 fail during IDPA shoots.

Wow.  I thought I was the only Kimber skeptic in these parts.  The pistols look great, but a lot of the people I have trained with have had plenty of aggravation from their Kimbers in class.

I heard it was going to have an external extractor and be a lot better than the SAs.

I hear it's going to be the '05 SEBR. The site bought them all in advance so there won't be any problems... they have them in a safe and are waiting until the big day to put them up for sale... I think it was going to be the 7th Thursday of April 1st. They are numbered -1 thru -1,000.

Hey, a Kimber AR15, COOL!
My friend said he saw one at a gun show last week.
Is it a pre ban or post ban?
Would it be a good choice for a petite female?
Is it better than a Colt or Bushmaster?
Should I put a two stage trigger in it?
Should I wait till after the ban, or get it now?
Will it shoot Wolf ammo?
Is it a .223 or 5.56, and whats the difference?
Should I get a Aimpoint or EO Tech for it?
Does Ken at SAW Sales sell it?
Would a RIS, RAS, RAH RAH fit?
Does it have the sear block, if so, can I dremel it out?
Can I put a collapsible stock on it?
Which would be better, the 16 or 20 inch barrel.

I want one!

ETA:
This thread is worthless without pics!

Yea, I am pretty sure the Kimber name is stamped on the Daewoo's that they imported, so I guess in very, very loose terms (I beleive some parts will interchange) there is a Kimber version of an AR15, imported from Korea.

As a matter of fact I've owned two, a Pro CDP (pre-Series II) that I sold to buy my M4gery and a stainless Pro Carry II that I still own. The CDP was a nice gun, but the Pro Carry is a total POS. Failures to feed (improperly machined frame, mag catch out of spec), failures to return to battery (Series II FPS plungers not radiused), parts breaking (replacement CMC mag catch), parts improperly manufactured (slide stop)...need I go on? I've owned it since October '03 and it hasn't made it thru a single range trip without something going wrong.

My Colt Combat Elite, Colt ORM 1991A1, and Dan Wesson PM7-S all function perfectly, so I'm pretty sure it's not operator error.

I saw a Kimber "AR" at the local fun store.

$1200 dollars!

I have heard bad things about Kimber pistols and rifles, so no way in heck will I even consider.

Too pricey anyway.

It looked like it had a 20" barrel and was a flattop.

Just wait until Sept 13th and the prices will go down since ALL Kimeber ARs are preban.  Most came witha gold lined bbl which was later switched to titanium.  none of that cheap chrome.  All Kimber mags are also a special polymer which can be stretched to 70 or 80 round capacity as long as you put the longer spring in it.
