All SP1s I have ever seen or heard of have the large pivot pin, so it's a safe bet that you have a large pivot pin. Go ahead, take two screwdrivers, remove the pin, and see. Use screwdrivers large enough to fill the slots on the screws. The worst that can happen is one of the screwdrivers will slip and scatch the finish. If that concerns you, put tape on the receivers.
Large pins are 5/16" diameter, small pins are 1/4" diameter.
Some blue lable Sporters had a 2 screw type small pivot pin.
An 'offset pin' will allow you to put a small hole upper on a large pin lower.
An 'offset bushing' will allow you to put a large hole upper on a small pin lower.
As far as the color issue, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it bothers you, have it refinished with Moly-cote, Gun-kote, or a similar product.
