I'll be buying a new rifle, and I'd like to get a Colt.  Before anyone chimes in about their favorite brand, I'll say that I've researched the issue to my satisfaction save a few reservations relating to compatibility.

I asked some people on chat, but no one knows the anser.  I may not use the jargon appropriately, so forgive me gurus.

I want to buy a new post-ban AR with the confidence that the AW ban will expire.

I tend towards a Colt, but don't want it if Colt continues to make weapons in non-standard sizes.  

Does anyone know if the CURRENT Colt M4's will fit:

1) all "standard uppers" in size (before you recommend biggerhammer.net, I've read it)

2) all "fire control parts" from all other manufacturers?

Does Colt still use "Colt" sizes?

Does it really matter if the fire control pins are different sizes?

Welcome! I have a Colt MT6400C M4 carbine and LOVE it. It is the closest to a "real" M4 that a civilian can buy.

-It has a standard pushpin lower that will accept a standard upper from any manufacturer. Here's a pic of mine:

The only thing different about a Colt (aside from superior QC [;)]) is the .170" hammer and trigger pins. This is a [b]non-issue[/b] because every aftermarket trigger vendor with the exception of Knight's makes a trigger for Colts.

The Colt 6400c has an M4 marked upper and lower:

Like you, I'm greatly looking forward to the sunset. Most of all I can't wait to have my Magpul stock converted back to a retractable unit like it was intended. At the moment my Magpul is locked to be postban compliant [:(]

The 1/7ROT barrel will allow you to employ the most effective defensive ammunition. Heavier
rounds like the 75gr TAP pictured here are [b]not[/b] recommended for 1/9ROT barrels:

Does anyone know firsthand why Colt makes the hammer and trigger pins the way Colt does?  I wonder.

Colt uses large pins because in order to keep their defense contract their civilian weapons must not be "readily convertible" into fullauto machine guns.

This is spelled out very clearly in their contract.

CJan is correct the push pins are standard fire
controls are not and not an issue to me.

I've only owned 1/9 Ar's, and I know that the 1/7 is for the heavier bullets, but how will a 1/7 stabilize a lighter round, like a 55gr?

That confection on the end of the 6400C barrel, is that really a comp, or is it a brake?  I mean, does it DO anything, besides make the barrel legal length?

The truth is that it took him all of 3 minutes to make that. He has it saved on his PC, so all he has to do is cut and paste.

I have a Colt and love it.   I also have ........................and love it.  

I just bought a 6400C and love it.  Workmanship seems very good.  Time will tell on the rest, but I don't forsee a problem.  As far as compatibility, I wouldn't worry about it.  Why buy a second upper for it...just buy a second lower, and have two ARs....

The FCG pins are large on the LEO rifles I have seen.

No - only Colt uses the large FCG pins.  I don't see it as an issue as I keep one spare set on hand and have never taken it out of the wrapper.
