I'm going to roll the dice, and wait for September.
If the AWB goes away, I'll get the threaded, if not THEN the slip on.

What the hell are the circular grooves for?  And I mean for all falsh hider / muzzle reak units with all the circular grooves, are they functional for cooling or just for collecting more crap to clean out or WHAT?

Probably just for looks. It probably looked stupid with smooth sides so they textured it.

Is it just me, or are the circular grooves meant to emulate the Phantom?

as to why the Phantom has them:
more surface area = faster cooling

, would seem the only logical reason I can see.

My slip on brakes became projectile devices after vibrating loose, despite repeated torquing and loctite. I am a screw-on, blind pin and welded over brake kind of guy now. I don't see any reason why the brake pictured here couldn't be threaded, blind pinned, and the pin welded over.

Looks ready to go!

Ding Ding! We have a winner.

It's made by Yankee Hill FOR Bushmaster of course.
The question is HOW CLOSE is it in performance to a Vortex/Phantom?

Why not send it to KKF (Kurts Kustom, in the industry section), he can thread your barrel use a crush washer and then blind pin it for permanent installation all post ban legal.

K2 sports (sponsor ont his board)will also do it if you live in DFW area - they did mine.

It's cheaper than KKF A3 brake. I've also heard from several members of this board that he's a busy guy and has a long turn-around time.

The phantom FS is a weed catcher just like the 3 prong.
