You are correct about deviations from “mil-spec” as a way to keep the stock more affordable and decrease production time.  Here is some information so that everyone might gain an understanding from the manufacturer’s perspective…

“mil-spec” screws cost several times more than standard hex screws, and are not an off the shelf item...we prefer to use off the shelf hardware whereever possible to avoid supply/logistics issues.  

The foamed interior of the “mil-spec” stocks was necessary at the times those molds were made for strength and to form the buffer tube channel.   The C1 stock mold is an automatic tool capable of producing 3,000+ buttstocks a day, fully functional as soon as they come out of the press as the buffer extension hole and trap door compartment are formed in the mold.

“mil-spec” trap doors and buttplates at the cheapest price we can buy them cost $11.00….we can injection mold a buttplate and trap door for $0.50 and include them with the stocks for free as a customer courtesy.  The trap door was intentionally made to be easier to open, using a “living hinge”…I personally prefer it so I can get at my cleaning kit and extra batteries more easily.   I have yet to see anyone break one of our trap doors from normal use, however if you do we will give you a free replacement.  As was mentioned the A2 standard buttplate and trap door will work with the C1 stock, we did this intentionally as most are sold as replacement units for rifles equipped with A2 stocks….another reason not to include an $11.00 buttplate and trap door with each one.

Our stamped and parkerized sling swivels are now standard with all our C1 stocks and M4 SOCOM stocks….”mil-spec” sling swivels use a nonstandard thread pitch, and are another one of those small parts that unnecessarily costs a lot.  A2 sling swivels will still work on the C1 stock and the RRA sling swivels will work on the M4 SOCOM stock if you desire to use them.




What you are referring to is called "sink"...it is the result of plastic shrinking when it cools as it comes out of the mold.  You will often see it on plastic parts that are thicker...that particular area on the C1 stock is the thickest portion on the part.  Sink can be lessened to certain degrees by running the mold slower (and increasing per part cost), but it is also somewhat unavoidable.  The sink on the C1 stocks is more noticeable with certain colors and under various lighting conditions.

The Cav Arms green is the same shade as the RRA and Armalite green.

If you're doing a new build, you'll want a sling loop and bottom screw as well as the spring and buffer. Let me know if you'd like the whole thing as a package.
