The only "good" carry handle scopes are Trijicon ACOGs and Compact ACOGs.
The (long discontinued) Colt scopes (made by Hakko of Japan) are *decent*, but certainly not great, and IMO not worth their asking price. The bottom line is: mounting a scope on the carry handle will place the scope too high to use well, and due to the extra height over the boreline, will have a narrow range of zero, and will have exaggerated drop-off at longer ranges. That's why folks who want to scope their ARs use flattop uppers. It solves all of those problems. -Troy |

Doesn't apply to today's technology very much, but a guy in my infantry company in Viet Nam fitted a Redfield scope on a M-16 in 1965. An article on it is here:

I've got one of the older Colt/Hakko 3x scopes on one of my rifles. I like it.

I've been running a Leupold 3-9x40 for 12 years with good results. Back when I bought it I don't think flattops were available yet-if they were I didn't see any. The biggest problem with having the scope up so high is that you need a cheekpiece, which makes using the backup irons damn near impossible.

I've got a 4x Japanese made Colt scope on a GS SP2, there definitely are better ones but after I figured out how to set it up it works well, I repeatedly put ten round groups in a 3" group at 100 yds yesterday using 55g handloads,I wouldn't get one unless price was real good, gotta admit it does look good though.
