I have a Colt Sporter I'm paying off at the shop, and now I'm hearing about Colts having different trigger pin sizes.  Does anyone know if this is on all Colts, or just certain models?

A preban AR-15A2 Sporter II has the small trigger pins.

So are small pins normal, or different from every other manufacturer?

Small pins are what everybody else uses.  The only difference in the Sporter II from everybody else is that the Sporter II has a large front pivot pin.

IF you don't mind me asking, when did Colt start using different diameter trigger pins?

They started using them with the blue label guns in 1990.  The PC blue label guns had sear blocks, half circle carriers and no bayonet lugs.

Even if your Colt did have large fire control pins it is a non-issue. You can buy large pin Colt trigger parts anywhere, even Bushmaster sells a complete large-pin Colt fire control set for $49.95

Most drop in aftermarket triggers are available in both pin sizes too.

Enjoy your new rifle [:)]

You have the "Mil spec", "small", "standard", "what everybody else uses" sized pins.
