I need some help getting and maintaining a correct sight picture using irons on my AR. I'm grouping extremely well using an eotech red dot but I'm all over the place using irons, "ARMS #40". I can't figure out the correct placement of things looking through the damn rear apature. I'm a great shot with irons on my other weapons with blade style sights but can't group for shit with my AR. Any advice?

2 tips:

1) Always have the same cheekweld - easiest way to do this is to shoot with your nose just lightly touching the charging handle.

2) Use this for a guide to sight alignment:

and this for a sight picture:

Do the sights and the eo-tech co witness ?

I ask because if they do try to leave the dot on and use the irons sights. This may help you see were the zero is on the iron.

Do you have an M4?  The shorter sight radius may be less consistant (grouping wise) than a full 20" sight radius.

Groups with my M4 at 50 yards were about 1 foot, where my 20" gun was a tack driver.

Let me quote my PMI Instructor's words - "The CLEAR tip of the front sight post should be half way up and centered from left to right in the BLURRY rear sight aperture." The target should also be blurry because the eye can only focus on one object at a time, so for proper sight alignment the eye should focus on the clear tip of the front sight post.
Always works for me.
