Yojimbo,

How bout a picture of that from the top so's I can see the difference in width. Even better if you have a regular width SIR to put in the pic next to the slim one!!!

fott,

I have a 16", 1/7 barrel.

See all the details here -> http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=162739

bvmjethead,

Here's a pic from the top. I don't have the old version SIR but you can see the slim line models are only about as wide as the delta ring.

Yojimbo,
What a sweet Rifle !!!!! [bounce]

I was going to order the Complete Upper from Bushmaster with the SIR #45 Military on it.

Do you think the #50 is better than the 45?

Where did you get the #50 from?

Do they make the #50 in the Military Version?

Thanks..

fott,

Thanks!

As far as which SIR is best I thnk a lot has to do with how you are configuring your rifle.  You should figure out what your intended use of the rifle will be and also what optics and accessories you will be mounting on it.  Once you know these things picking rail system will much easier.

I like the slim line SIR versions better than the older models because you get the same advantages in lighter, thinner package.  The full size SIR does have a bit better cooling capacity but from what I'm told it's a very negligable differnce.

The C and M models both mount to the receiver and barrel nut the same way so neither one has an advantage of being more secure or rigid than the other.

I feel the C is more versatile because you can leave the delta ring on so it's easier to install and will allow you to easily switch back to normal hand guards or another rail system with minimal hassle.

IMHO, the M model offers no advantages other than a different cosmetic appearance and gives you less options if you want to change it out.

The SIR 50 does not have the PEQ mount because of it's bi-level rails. The bi-level rail allows the Eotech's to be mounted and still co-witness the BUIS.  ARMS also sells an add on rail to make the the 50 a single level setup if needed.

If you need a PEQ mount you may want to look at the SIR 46 which is also a slim line model but with the single level rail and PEQ mount.

Hope this helped![:D]

FWIW, I own a #45M SIR and I agree with everything yojimbo said!!! #50 is the way to go. I dont think they make it in a M model (at least not yet). If they did I would have it. The only reason I dont have one now is because I bought the M version of the #45 and it is too much of a PIA to get a delta ring back on.

Well...ever since the slim-lines came out, I've been waiting for a #50 -M model, though I'm beginning to wonder if ARMS will even make any more of the -M series, given the military's apparent preference for the -C. I have no problem w/ a dedicated setup.

I am planning to build a 16" carbine with a bull barrel.  Will the ARMS SIR system work with a bull barrel, or will it only work with a standard profile barrel?  Also, for a bull barrel would I need the civilian or military version of the SIR.

Any help would be appreciated.

handcranked,
There is a ARMS SIR for a 20" gun but it requires a flat top. Very few have been released so far (I do mean VERY few). Hopefully we'll start seeing more soon.
