I recently purchased a Bushmaster Shorty with the fixed stock on it. The guy I bought it from just purchased a Colt Targetmatch. I shot mine and I could here the spring in the stock everytime I shot. You know, that spring compressing sound. Then, I shot the Colt with the same type of stock on it and it is so smooth and you don't hear the spring.

Is this correct or is something out of whack?

Thanks in advance,
JC

Thanks Bushy.

Had me worried a little there.

No problem, First look at the differece in the two stocks, the full stock will dampen the noise a little better.
If it really annoys you, try using ear plugs instead of muff type protectors.
Muff type really transmit the sound since the hard plastic is right on the stock.
I have two Bushys, both boing a little, but I don't even notice it anymore.

Edited cause I can't spell for smack.

How bout that. I was using the muffs instead of plugs. I guess after I shoot it a while I won't notice it either. Just wondering though. Again, this board is the bomb. Thanks to all that make it what it is.

Mine does the same thing, but you won't notice it after you shoot it awhile.

A light coat of grease on the buffer spring is supposed to solve the problem.
I quit noticing a long time ago.

That's perfectly normal for AR15/M16 rifles. In fact the 'sproing' sound was one of the first things I noticed while I fired my M16A1 in the service. After 20 years of shooting these weapons, if I don't hear the noise I think somethings wrong. I love that sound!

It is a hearing test to see that you are not going deaf.

I use the spring sound to tell when the mag is empty.
