You are "thinking" of buying this rifle?  It's got an auto sear and is a military issue M16A1...is it a registered Class III rifle?

Army Inf and Gloftoe are right, the barrel may be plugged or something, but it ain't demilled.  Someone is pulling your crank, or someone out there is trying to get one of us in very serious trouble.  It looks like it could have walked off a Nat'l Guard base or something.  I have some really old stuff that says it Gov't Proprty, an old .45 and a fully operational Thompson, but they both have paper work on them.  Have the owner go with you to the local ATF office and see if they will type you up a letter saying the gun with such and such serial number is o.k...or maybe even just aq verbal blessing.  I have had a good relationship with ATF for a long time.

I'm with Greco, that lower receiver is whole and uncut, and most certainly not demilled per government regulations.  Call the ATF first and explain what you have then go in and get something in writing, don't just show up carrying what looks to me to be a full automatic Government issue M16A1 unless you want to leave in shackles.

Looks can be decieving in pictures, maybe it is legit, but it deserves caution nevertheless.

Hmmm,

Looks like the picture is off line...  Did anybody think to save it?  If so, can someone post a copy or E-mail me a copy and I will post it.

I am guessing that the early oppinions that things were not on the up & up may have been correct!  I just wish I had got to see the pic!

Check your temporary internet files, and see if it got saved there.  I can't seem to find it here on mine, but I delete my temporary interenet files every chance I get.
