So I bit the bullet and bought my first Colt accurized rifle in 223 cal. I know this has been asked a lot but I need a refresh on best scope and trigger for 400 yd work on varmint and target. I was thinking Leupold VXIII in 4.5-14 and wondered if the tactical premium of 200$ is worth it. On the trigger is the Jewell ok or should I go to MK or JP? No flames for asking stale questions ok...it a big investment!

[beer] Always good to see another member from Ole Virginia. [:)]

Sorry I don't have any good answers to your questions though. My rifles don't fill the same niche as yours.

Welcoma aboard.

I have the VXIII in 3.5x10 and it is great.  For most scope purchases, the extra money is worth it.  That Loopy is the only high dollar scope I have and it is definitely worth it, but I don't have other good scopes to campare to.

I've heard great things about the Jewell trigger so you should do good with that.  I play with my own trigger work though so I have never bought one.

I really like my stock trigger, but I did add the following:

Very nice! Do you have a complete pic? Which scope is it, looks great. I have the Harris bipod and the telescoping stock.

I have a Jewell on my Les Baer and a RRA trigger on my Bushmaster.  I like the Jewell a little better, but not a double the price.  I have no experience with the JP or MK, but I am sure that some other people do.
I also have one Colt lower set up with a WTS set trigger, it is o.k., but when set it is only one pound-a little light for my taste.  I have learned to like the two stage on the AR's.

I do not have a complete picture.  The Scope is a side focus Tasco Super Sniper from SWFA.  I had a Leupold VXIII Mildot on it, but I put that on my AR-10T
