Besides the fact that its Colt, why is operating the charging handle on a Colt so much smoother than other brands?

That's because Colt CH cost more than other brands.

No kidding, on one of my Colt rifle I had to use a lower cost LMT CH because the Colt cost way too much.

That's what happens when the interior of the buffer entension tube is finished properly, and the proper wire (both gauge and type) is used for the buffer spring itself.

Same reason any OEM part costs more.

I use the LMT handles from BRAVOCOMPANY anyway.  They are very nice.
