Did that thing get run over by a truck?
Judging by the stress cracks in the anodizing in that last pic, it looks like some pretty considerable force was applied to that thing. ETA: What's odd is there doesn't appear to be much, if any wear on that rail (indicating it hasn't seen a lot of normal wear and tear). Looks more like one single event caused that damage as opposed to gradual damage caused by use over time. |
Where did you get that upper and handguard?
I've seen a couple ff handguards get crunched or twisted like that getting closed in a heavy armored truck door, and slammed by a heavy steel door. There's not a lot you can do in situations like that. If you bought that handguard/upper used, you might want to ask the seller wtf the deal was. |
That's highly abnormal wear for anything gun related. That's borderline end user neglect be it from you or a previous owner. I doubt they will not take care of it, but maybe you should use a prybar instead of a rail to open a deadbolted door?
Call their customer care. You will get someone within 4 rings... but that's highly peculiar and abnormal. |
If it was like that from the factory you would have noticed it when taking it out of the box, it's not like a minor blemish
Ive had it for a while. It had its normal wear marks, but not this damage. When I took it out today I almost went through the roof. I have no clue what happened to it. All day today I’ve been trying to figure out how it happened. It hasn’t been slammed in any doors, hasn’t been run over with a vehicle. It’s fallen off the tailgate once, and knocked over but nothing that I know of that would cause this
I’m flabbergasted. |
I have to agree with the others. No normal wear and tear caused this. I'm almost certain that Geissele will take care of it, but someone knows what really happened here. I actually abuse my rifles and none of my Geissele rails look like this. Not even close.

I agree #geisseleallthings. Covered under warranty or not, this will be replaced with another Geissele rail
Does it still work??? If , shoot it and move on.
if they give you a new one, does on the old one? |
Not calling you a liar op, but with that much damage we are missing a significant part of the story.....
OP, if you're sure that you didn't do that, I would be looking real hard at anyone else in your household that might have had access to that rifle without you present at the time.

Holy crap that thing is mangled! If I had to guess...to me it looks like it was run over by a vehicle on a soft surface such as grass. I doubt you could do that kind of damage and not know it. Not saying you ran over it, that's just what l'd guess based on the amount of squish and lack of scratches/marks.
It’s hard to believe. I’d be questioning it if I saw someone else post it. I know these handguards are tough. Only other person who has access to it is my wife, but she doesn’t touch the safe or anything in it.
The first thing I did was ask her about it if she was mad at me or something. |

Wow, if no one else had access to this upper, you had better call Fox Mulder on this one.
Geissele would be pretty interested in what might have caused this I'd think. I bent a DD M4 rail hanging off it on an energetic helo extraction many years ago, but nothing like this. |
Looks like you put it in a vise and squeeze the shit out of it and tried to twist it up. I've seen Geissele rails actually be abused and thrown around, never seen one even close to that.

Everything was installed about a year ago. Let a local gun shop do it for me. I know it’s hard to believe me. Im doing detective work today trying to get to the bottom of it.
Truck tire.
That shit didn't magically happen sitting in a fucking safe. Somebody call Matlock. |
Looks like someone tried to do a twisted Damascus pattern with a Geissele rail.
I'm curious how much force was applied to that rail. |
Either the gun shop that put it together squeezed it up in a vice (I would think that would be instantly noticeable)
Or it got slammed in a safe door or something. It would take quite a bit of effort to squish that severely |
Edit: wife Said she was mad at me and slammed it on the carpet floor. Still puzzled how that would do this. I’ll edit again if more comes out
2nd edit: “I picked it up and THREW it on the carpet!” “I had it shoulder heigh or maybe higher and THREW IT” Her words |

Your wife slammed it in the safe door, or drove a D7 catapeller over it.

I still don’t buy it. A carpeted floor from 6’ even being thrown... not that much damage.

Holy fuck. New rail. New wife. In that order. View Quote If Bill Geissele could conference call you guys, and figure out what the hell she actually did to it... I bet he would still cover it. I'm as sure as the sky is blue that she did more than slam it on the carpet. That's been slammed in a door. You don't collapse aluminum like that. Your wife is clearly a danger. Edit. Did you shoot it yet? I'm guessing the optic is more than likely screwed, and I'd be looking at the upper carefully. Wtf of the day |

This thread has fully progressed into the unbelievable realm at this point.

I'd have your wife evaluated. Not joking. She's clearly out of her mind and should have zero access to firearms. I'm still calling bs. No way did throwing it down on carpet cause that damage. Physically impossible. Not even on concrete.
She jumped on it or slammed stuff on it after she threw it on the ground. It can't do that by itself.
Either way, eject. |
Combo has been changed on the safe. I haven’t fired it yet, going to check everything out to make sure nothing else is damaged.
She’s a good woman, never had anything like this with her before . But I’m with you guys about slamming it on the carpeted floor. I’m not buying it either. |

How do I move it to GD?

Consider sending your wife to anger management. That is not considered normal adult behaviour.
