Well, I received my order from Rock River Arms the other day. With all the articles in American Rifleman lately and elsewhere I was expecting a great product. I mated it with a Bushmaster lower and the fit was fine, Quality of the 20" stainless varmit upper: The stainless had some machining marks which should have been buffed out, I can live with these, the freefloat tube had what looked like solvent stains? Could not remove these stains, don't know what they could have got on it while building the upper. Took the gun out yesterday after cleaning and oiling and mounting a 6x24-50mm scope and ASA mount and Harris bipod. With no sighting in and an abbrieviated barrel breakin the gun shot sub-MOA with S&B 55gr ammo (brass cass). I was impressed. I didn't bring much S&B ammo so I switched to South African military ammo, failed to function. Switched to PMP commercial, failed to function, Hmm? Went home and cleaned gun. Bolt was almost impossible to disassemble, tolerances were tighter than any of the other 4 bolts I own. Took all AR's out today and the RRA upper functioned flawlessly with all ammo. Had super lubricated the bolt and carrier this time with telflon containing spray lube instead of break-free CLP.
Other AR with titanium DPMS bolt and carrier failed to function. took out bolt and carrier, cleaned and lubed and still would not fire more than a few rounds at a time. Hmm, thought it was the same problem I had with the other gun. Guess not. Put an ASA chrome bolt in and gun functioned flawlessly.
One other problem I had with Rock River Arms products. I purchased a set of green furniture for my Colt 6601 and installed everthing but the pistol grip. It would not fit the Colt Lower, it was to tight to slip on? I tried to put it on a Bushy lower, still wouldn't fit? Aren't all pistol grips made to the same dimensions, can't believe it would not fit. I got out my Dremel and it now fits. Best little tool I ever bought. Come on Rock River Arms, your prices are good I admit, but pay a little more attention to detail.
