If you want to use the stock barrel nut the Centurion C4 mlock rail is great
The Trooper model uses the Centurion CMR rails, but not milspec barrel nut Lots of other good options from BCM, SLR, Midwest, G, SOLGW M76 |

I ended up with a Troy alpha rail on the one I have. Only real reason for it was at the time(and maybe still) there wasn’t many options for a 15” rail the went on the factory barrel nut.

Looking for the simplicity to bolt onto the factory barrel nut so I will research these suggested And while on the topic, what's the deal on the OEM2 versions....no buttstock, trigger guard, and handguard. Is everything else good to go? Seems kind of strange that Colt would sell these but they're significantly cheaper than a complete rifle. Besides the handguard, I have the other parts in my parts bin that would complete it |

It was an attempt to try and keep sales and compete with the “budget” rifles, same as the expanse series. They did make sense as the parts that don’t come on with them are the most popular parts to remove and replace with upgraded parts over a standard 6920. What’s strange is, it was reported some time ago that the OEM series was being discontinued and a lot of rifles got closed out for very cheap. Then all of a sudden they popped up again. |

View Quote A machine gun rental in Las Vegas posted they had tried 20 Colt M4 Carbine LE6920 OEM1 (same as the OEM2 except it have a front sight base) in 2015 it was legally converted to full auto for rental purpose, they didn't even cut the barrel to 14.5 inch like the original M4 model to save cost. They installed Magpul SL (Slim Line) handguards, vertical forward grips, grips and stock, 10 carbines had the flat dark earth color and the other 10 carbines OD green color furniture was installed. According to the machine gun rental's maintenance records these Colt carbines parts lasted 2 to 3 times longer lifespan than other high quality manufacturers that they also used. All noted carbines had more than 150,000 rounds in one year average. FWIW, the Centurion C4 handguards are about as simple and solid as it gets. |

Besides the handguard, I have the other parts in my parts bin that would complete it View Quote The idea is to sell to OEM manufacturers, or those who would take a basic Colt frame and finish it up with rails and such, like Magpul or Troy or Centurion, etc. What is somewhat confusing is why they are releasing to commercial distribution. But, I have given up assigning any logic whatsoever to Colt's product and distribution decisions in the commercial market. |

Will put a magpul carbine stock on it, a K2+ grip, and trigger guard and go shoot it suppressed (after I figure out which rail I'm going with) - probably leaning towards the Troy due to the cost as compared to the Centurion. |

If you are fine with replacing the barrel nut then sky's the limit, get whatever rail you prefer. |

Fortis REV 2’s will work too and they are lighter than the Centurion C4’s

Anyone else wish Colt would have stepped up with a better barrel profile than the M4 for the OEM2’s?
If you are marketing the rifle to put a free float rail on are you really going to be mounting a 203 to it? |

Was about to pull the trigger on the OEM previously mentioned, but a shooting buddy is offering to sell me his CR6960 NIB for $1100 which seems like a good price? So I'm assuming the 6960 is the mid-length version of basically the same gun vs the carbine version gas system? I would probably change out the buttstock and the grip to my liking as it already comes with a forearm rail. Attached File |

For a CR version, it's a fair price (the CR's sell for new for ~$1150-$1200) Functionally yes, the only difference between the 6920's and 6960's is the barrel. 6920's have the 16" M4 profile barrel w/carbine gas system. The 6960's have a 16" LW profile barrel with a midlength gas system. The 6960s will balance better and shoot softer. As for the difference between the LE6960's and the CR6960's, the LE's have the "M4 Carbine" rollmarked lowers, the CR's have the laser engraved "Carbine" marked lowers. The LE's also came with Magpul stock and grip where as the CR's have the standard Colt M4 stock and A2 grip. |
