Gentlemen, Dear friends of mine, Maj. Rex Vehrs and SGT Steve Merritt have been working with the LBJ Ranch to host its first Wounded Warrior Hunt 15-17 November 2013, to honor five American Heroes that were wounded in the Service of their Country and one young man, who lost his father to an IED Blast in Afghanistan. Lyndon Nugent and his Team have graciously offered the Ranch and its facilities to welcome and host these fine Americans and show them some wonderful Johnson City/Fredricksburg hospitality. They are humbly asking for support from the community to help honor these Warriors and welcome them back home in a fine Central Texas fashion. We are hoping to show appreciation and offer a peaceful respite for these Servants. We are proud of our Warriors and appreciative of their sacrifices, please help us show them our deep gratitude. Thank you! What I am going to do is take donations myself, and I will buy a Wal-Mart e-gift card and send it to Rex. They will use it to purchase food and drinks for the event and some other odds and ends, like coolers to send processed meat home with the wounded warriors. If you would like to make a donation, I have emptied my paypal account so that you can send money there. On November 1st I will close this thread and all donations made after midnight of October 31st will be refunded. Once the donation period is closed I will purchase the gift card and send it to Rex. Rex will provide a purchase receipt from Wal-Mart so that we can see where our money was spent. He wants to keep complete transparency on this deal and I agree. So, if you would like to donate you may GIFT money via paypal to DONATION PERIOD ENDED. Include your REAL NAME and USERNAME in the comments section and I will make an AAR thread once the hunt is over. In the next few days I will be posting some of the bio's of the soldiers participating in this hunt... Thanks in advance, Steve Your donations will go toward the following: Food: Catering for 6 meals, x25 people per meal Meat Processing for the Warriors Taxidermy (as requested) Hunting Rifle / Ammo (Remington Model 770 Bolt Action Rifle .270 Winchester 22" Barrel 4 Rounds 3-9x40mm Riflescope Realtree All Purpose Camo Synthetic Stock Stainless Steel Barrel or similar within budget) and ammunition for the hunt) - IF WE GET ENOUGH MONEY OR A DONATION IN KIND, THESE RIFLES WILL BE PRESENTED TO EACH OF THE WARRIORS AS A TAKE HOME MEMENTO OF THE HUNT Keepsake shirts and Hats - Embroidered or screen print with the LBJ Warrior Hunt Logo (TBD) ANY COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION WISHING TO DONATE IN KIND (PRODUCTS OR SERVICES) WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A GIFT IN KIND RECEIPT FROM HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS FOR TAX PURPOSES. |

View Quote Although WWP is a non-profit organization, their operating costs alone consume the majority of the money that is donated. Our goal is to support local events, or groups that are not "non-profit companies" but that are just soldiers trying to do things for their fellow warrior. This hunt is being put on by my good friend Maj. Rex Vehrs, an active duty soldier in the Warrior Transition Unit at Ft. Hood. Any and ALL donations made to this event will be used for THIS EVENT ONLY. We do not want cash, we are trying to keep total transparency so paypal (I have receipts for donations) and a gift card (which will have a receipt) is the best option. Depending on the amount of participation we get, we will either get one Wal-Mart gift card or as funds permit, a secondary gift card to an outfitter like Cabela's or Bass Pro. |

Fellow Patriots and Warriors,
Wow - I can't tell all of you how deeply appreciative and humbled I am that you are supporting this amazing event! We are about to positively change the lives of six great American Warriors by recognizing them for their sacrifices - with your needed help! Some highlights to this event are: 1. Five Wounded Warriors of various eras (two are wheel chair bound) will be attending along with one Son (16 years old) of a Soldier that was killed in Afghanistan last year. The Father told his son that he would take him hunting for the first time when he got back - and, sadly, never did make it home to do so. Story of 16 Yr old's Father Hopefully, we can take all of them on a hunt of a lifetime. 2. We want to show deep appreciation and recognize all six of these individuals for their sacrifice to the nation for others. 3. Fellow Wounded Warriors are planning, organizing, and executing this event. None of them are taking any money and all donations go directly to the event and the participants. 4. We will be honored to have Chad Hennings (Air Force Veteran, A-10 Pilot in Gulf War, Dallas Cowboy, 3x Superbowl Winner and Founder of Wingmen Men's Christian Ministry) at the event. More on Chad Hennings - Click here. 5. Lyndon Nugent (President LBJ's Grandson, US Army fixed wing and rotary wing pilot, Attorney at Law) will be there and is the gracious one offering up the Ranch for the hunt. 6. Chuck Hawthorne (Retired Marine Major and fellow combat veteran) will be there and playing some great music. Please consider sharing this with your friends and reach out to AH64Pilot (Steve) to make donations. Again, we deeply appreciate all of this amazing group's support of this - you are making a positive difference with your huge Servant Hearts! At the completion of this event, we will post a report with photos of the hunt so that you can see where your kind donations went to. In Deep Thanks, Rex Vehrs MAJ, IN US Army Wounded/Injured Warrior Rangers Lead the Way! Do Good! |

Wow - what an amazing group of folks - we are getting more support from you all than anywhere else. Please keep it up!
Here is a picture of one of our Wounded Warriors that will be attending: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc101/rangerk9/LBJ%20Hunt/RangerMcElrath.jpg And, here is the cool thing about this - we are suprising this individual with the CSM that saved his life on the Drop Zone in Panama. They haven't seen each other in over 20 years! In continuing Appreciation, Rex Vehrs MAJOR, IN US Army Rangers Lead the Way! Do Good! |

Funds sent, wish I could spare more. Great job Steve, I think I may have found my replacement when I decide to step down (or get voted off the island)

I was looking into the old LT-104 v. LT-139 E question and figured this forum was the best place to start; glad I found your post. Worthy causes are lucky to have those like you Steve who get the word out, drive hard or spearhead on their behalf. Best wishes for a successful event.

Hold the ammo...we don't know what caliber they will be shooting yet. We were thinking .270 but that hasn't been finalized. Sort of depends on what kind of funds we raise here and what other donations we get from companies / groups. Thank you much though! |

I sent a little something.
How could I not? 2 of my favorites, our warriors going hunting!! |

I'll definitely be making a donation to this great event.

Gentlemen,
In a little over 24 hours we have raised $645! I thank you greatly for the generosity you have bestowed on these fine soldiers. I know this money will go a long way to making this hunt a memorable experience for each of them. But remember, it's not over... Anyone that would like to donate has until Midnight of November 1st to do so. The more money we collect the more we will spend on these men...it will all go to them. Every last penny. If we can buy each of them a car, we will lol! So thank you for your support thus far...let's keep this train rolling! Steve |

Thank you Steve for what you are doing. Some funds to help with the hunt have been sent your way.
