The NEW KMR-A (Alpha) is here!
All the same great features as the original KMR but machined in Aluminum. Shipping Now ! The definitive modular combat rail is now also available in an Aircraft Grade Aluminum alloy. With seven mounting surfaces, the KMR-Alpha is a modular handguard that uses the KeyMod system to attach accessories such as lights, lasers, vertical grips, handstops and more. Utilizing the same patented (US 8904691) free float barrel nut lock up, the KMR-Alpha uses the identical mounting hardware as the original KMR. This new addition to the KMR family only weighs 6 ounces plus 2.2 ounces for barrel nut and hardware (Note: KMR-A10). Each KMR-Alpha includes a BCM® KeyMod QD Sling Mount and is available in 15", 13" and 10" as well as 9", 8" and 7" sizes. KeyMod is the industry standard for a repeat zero modular system. KeyMod mates the handguard and the accessory with a chamfered interface that self-aligns for consistent, repeatable mounting. This self-aligning interface is the same basis for the Picatinny 1913 rail system proven in combat by the US Military since 9/11. The KMR uses a patented lock up system where self-locking cross bolts apply force at the 12:00 position of the handguard equally distributing force around the surface area of the rail. This also insures continuous top center alignment of the rail and mitigates forwards/backwards movement of the handguard when the weapon system is fired. The KMR-A13 has an introductory SALE price of ONLY $189.95, and that includes a FREE KeyMod Sling Mount (KMSM, a $20 retail value!) |

If desired, lasering can be covered with Alumablack, from Brownells. It gives it kind of light ghosting. |

Ordered a 16" middy with 9" KMR-A last night, can't wait to compare it to my 13" KMR. The lower price got me and the fact that a couple extra Oz doesn't bother me.

The standard and Alpha are both extremely light weight and pretty solid. View Quote The Alpha is a good choice and value....for those who worried about scraping the finish off....I was in a hurry to install mine and forgot about the vertical foregrip method and starting hammering mine on from the front with a nylon hammer....I lube it up and everything but it was still tight to the barrel nut.... I caught myself hammering on that sharp edge got a rag and wiped it off and not a mark on it....pretty tough finish on the Alpha... After I stopped myself I secured a vertical foregrip and finished the install.... If you are worried about the slight wt gain just pickup a Ti barrel nut and hardware from V7 Weapons Systems that'll make up the difference and then some. |

I haven't really had any issues with my standard KMR's finish but I really don't care if I did. My rifles aren't beat up but if they get that way I don't care. I do notice a LOT less flex in the 9'' rail when compared to the 13''.

Trying to understand how this compares to the standard KMR rails. Is it lighter or heavier? Is it supposed to be stronger or what?

And possibly a more robust finish, I'm gathering? According to BCM the KMR made with an Aluminum Magnesium alloy has a tough enough finish but its light colored....so they put an overcoating on it that some folks found wore off too easily exposing the light colored undercoating.... The Alpha is Aluminum with hard anodizing....I have banged on the edge of it pretty good with a nylon hammer didnt scratch it a bit... BCM would probably say its not more robust just a different robust |

|
so i assume the new alpha(aluminum) is stronger than the original(magnesium alloy) ??
|
|
|
I doubt it would be "stronger"....
According to BCM the primary motivation in creating the "Alpha" was to put product into the hands of the consumer...availability of the raw material of the KMR was the issue. A side benefit for some might be that the hard coat anodizing of the Alpha is what people are more used to vs the KMR's cosmetic outer dark coating which when scratched sometimes revealed the lighter colored protective inner coating... The other, more obvious benefit,is the less expensive Alpha a nice cost savings which is always welcome... |

I just ordered a 15in KMR Alpha yesterday. However I got a question....the gas block im using is a VLTOR clamp on (not set screw) low profile unit. It should fit inside the kmr right?
|

|
Will a Noveske pig or similar type flash can fit inside a KMR Alpha rail?
. |
|
|
Will a 9" fit behind a standard FSB on a midlength barrel? I think it will. If so I need one to go on an upper I'm redoing.

I love thus rail but I HATE the barrel nut
The wrench keeps walking off the nut and stripping the square area where the wrench engages I wish to God I could find a solution but thus far I hate it |

How's the V7 Titanium KMR barrel nut hold up? I haven't ever used one so I'm not sure how it stands up against the standard one. A little input from someone who has tried it would be great!

Hello!
How many rail panels do I need to cover the 13" KMR Alpha? I'm looking at the BCM® KeyMod™ Rail Panel Kit, 5.5-inch panel. Do I need 14 or 16 of these? Thanks! |
