I want to build a precision AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoore with a 24" barrel.

What is the recommended trigger for the AR-10 for long range precision shooting?

All input and advise is welcome.

Thanks,

T2

I have a Geissele SSA-E trigger on one of my AR15s. It will also go into an AR10. I like it alot.

Timney triggers are the way for me in any precision gun. They have been making super precision triggers for longer than almost anyone else, and for more different guns than anyone else. They are the best imho.

I have a Rise Armament drop in in mine and I like it just fine.

Triggers... I was in the same boat recently and tried more than a few out. I can tell you what I tried and ended up with because they worked for me.

Geissele worked well, the SD-E and SSA-E. Pretty smooth all around,  nice break.  Didn't end up using them but wouldn't complain with one.

CMC 2 & 2. Nice trigger,  smooth with a clean break and decent reset.  Only thing I didn't like was there was no way to tension it in the receiver so there was a slight amount of play when installed. KNS pins didn't correct it.  Had that play not been there I would have probably gone with the CMC.

Armalite, was a nice two stage and cheap (cost wise) but not on the level of the others I tried.

LaRue MBT, good price (at $99).  Take up was a little long,  wall defined and break was real crisp.  Reset was long,  kinda weak and gritty.  Reset itself was nice and positive.

Triggertech,  nice light take up, defined wall and crisp break.  Shorter and smooth reset. Reminded me of my pistol trigger.

AR Gold,  very similar to the Triggertech.

I ended up with an AR Gold and Triggertech. I already had the AR Gold and was looking for trigger for my Grendel.  Being as similar in feel as they are to me,  i didn't see a need to replace the AR Gold. My current build (another Creedmoor) will use another Triggertech. There are a few others I would have liked to try,  but once I found these two I stuck with them.  The Triggertech was less cost for me than the AR Gold,  but I would use either readily.

Trigger is one thing I would tell you to try as many as you can if you can and find what works for you.  Good luck with your search.

Thank you!  Very helpful, I was curious about the Triggertech.

I put an SSAE in mine and have never regretted that decision.

More important question: Is your preference for a single stage or two stage?

Had a Timney in my 1st AR10 but decided to put a AR Gold in my 2nd one. Its a sweet trigger.

I started with a SSA-E but really didn't like the holdover time I was experiencing. At a 100 yards it was no problem but as you get further out and your heartbeat starts affecting your shot, it did get a little frustating so I switched to an Elfman that is designed for the AR-10. It is a drop in and uses set screws in the bottom so you can center it squarely in the pocket and the upward force keeps the pins from walking (I use anti-walk pins as an added measure). This is a single stage trigger that can be adjusted from 3.5 to 4.5 lbs. Mine will actually go from 3lbs to 5lbs as tested using an average of 5 pulls with a digital Lyman trigger pull gauge. The Elfman design is not much different from the Timney. I have other Elfman's and I love them so I stuck with them.

I agree.  I really like the AR Gold in mind too. If you ever get a chance to try a Triggertech,  please do.  Would be interesting to see if you feel they are similar to the AR Gold as well.

Over the years I have tried them all , in the end I have found the Elftmann to be the best over all . Not cheap , but very smooth, crisp and adjustable . Now if you want the lightest Match trigger for an AR you want the Jard . But it's not for the novice shooter.

Ended up ordering the Timney AR-10 4-pound trigger with the curved bow.  Not 100% sure on it for this build but I'll give it a try.  If it's not what I'm looking for, I'll move it to something else.

Triggertech, AR Gold, Or Timney Calvin Elite. TT has the best break. AR Gold is similar, but I dont care for the shoe. I run a Timney CE - really love the adjustability. All 3 are superior IMHO and you wont regret any.

This is the correct answer; it's the best AR trigger I've ever used, and it's the best Geissele.

Surprised not a lot of love for CMC! I have one in my AR15 and it's absolutely fantastic. Price is right too: https://www.cmctriggers.com/cmc-drop-in-trigger-curved/
