Good morning,
I have a 16 inch CMMG .308 and I took it out with the new glass I got for it for a sight in. First round, the round ejected at about 4-5 o clock and the bolt slammed forward and didn't feed another round. I cycled a new round by hand and then the bolt got stuck on the edge of the upcoming round, again ejecting at the 4-5 o clock. I tore the rifle down at the range and cleaned and lubed it. No difference. I continued to hand cycle at least 40 rounds of several different ammo selections I had. I checked the gas block, no leaks, aligned, and set properly. I did find out this rifle has a non adjustable gas block.
My question is, is there a way to adjust the gas without an adjustable gas block? For specifics, I have the Midwest industries low profile gas block. My presumption is I'm a tad under gassed. I had this rifle built for me by a local ffl who is no longer with us.
Will a lighter buffer help me? Or should I just install a new adjustable gas block? It is a rifle length system.
I have a base understanding of how the system operates, I just don't want to go the wrong route when there could be an easier alternative, cheaper too.
Thank you!
