This post contains the latest and greatest information. It will be edited to reflect any changes, if required.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update (11/29/22): Propagation has been decent. We have been able to continue the nets on 40 meters only. Due to winter propagation, we may have to do the net on 80 meters. Look for posts before the net starts to verify band and frequency selected for the net. ARFCOM (American Radio Friendship Community net), weekly SSB Phone net. Each Tuesday, at 8:00 PM Eastern. 7.213 Mhz primary frequency, plus/minus QRM 7.285 Mhz secondary frequency, plus/minus QRM. Most of the time we and up on this frequency, 7.285 Mhz. Exact frequency will be posted (on the last page) before each net starts. --------------------------------- ---------------------------------- FYI. For 80m nets only (when 40m propagation is poor): Due to the frequent 80m band congestion and multiple "rag chew" nets, it's not practical to use Arfcom frequencies on the 80m band. Net Control Station will find an open frequency and post it here. We'll try to keep it near 3.861 Mhz, +/- QRM (usually +10, -10 Khz but not always) We'll keep it within the "General Class" portion of the band. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everyone is encouraged to participate. Feel free to give us your situation report. For the newbies: This net is held on shortwave amateur radio frequencies. You need a General, Advanced or Extra class, amateur radio license and all appropriate radio equipment to participate. Want to become a ham? Read here first. Feel free to ask any questions or post your suggestions. 73! |

can just hear you in the noise here in central fl.

Barely hearing the Net Control on 20m
Good excuse to hang another antenna |
|
|
I can barely make out voices.
|
|
|
I can sort of tell that there might be voices in the noise, but I cannot tease them out. Yet a few minutes ago, I was listening to a guy in Ireland.
... just picked up Minneapolis. |

The noise isn't that high. S5. I just can't hear anyone.

NCS is a 3-2 ...at times...
playing with filters but no joy a first solid station was Brian in NE 5-7 going to switch antennas. wish I had an antenna switch. I hate to call and not know if I am stepping on someone. |

I hear Nebraska.

I heard the Texas station. Only voice I've heard on 20 meters.

Couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting through even though I could hear ok. Finally remembered I had unhooked my transmit antenna due to recent thunderstorms. I remembered to hook up the receive antenna but not the transmit one

Can’t hear NC but I did get another Slovenia contact on 14.240.

Net Control varying between S1 and S8 here in CenTex with the QSB. He gave me an S9 from my 100 watts and a 72' wire. I love my simple station.

6 check-ins on 20 meters.
Standby for a 40m frequency. |

The spectrum scope shows alot of activity. Other than the station in Texas I'm just not hearing anyone. My antenna is a problem, but I won't be able to correct that until we get our new house built and move. That has been delayed due to lumber prices. I guess I'll just have to stick to 40 and 80 meters for now.

I thought about getting a GAP 20 meter vertical, but I think I'll just wait until we get moved. I live in a valley next to the Ohio River. Our land is up on a ridge. Over 300 feet more elevation. |

Your weather radar looks pretty good Mine not so much Pulling wires and securing for storm See you next week Thanks |
|

That storm came out of nowhere! I went from a nice evening with the shack doors open, to running to disconnect in about 30 seconds. At least I got checked in.
Edit: It doesn't look severe on radar. Just a common springtime thunderstorm. |

If they bitch I can still use it as a mobile set up. That DX Commander looks nice. There is a guy about 90 miles east of here that builds and sells antennas that he calls Eagle 1. They are somewhat similar to the DXC. You weren't the TX station I heard. It was another ARFCOMMER that I already had in my logbook. |

NC went from a 5-7 on 40 to 2-2 on 80 for me.
|
|
|
I guess I'm just too far out of range and with a compromise antenna and just can't make it on 80m. I can tell NC is in there, and get a word or two once in a while, but not enough to try a contact. Maybe I can try a CW checkin or get a relay. We'll see.
