with a marlin 25n but occasionally a browning buckmark. I have also used bucket traps (gal bucket, 3 gal water covered in birdseed plus a ramp to the top of the bucket).
You could also try rat traps. |

I've used Havahart 1025 traps with sunflower seed successfully. I set two up by known holes last year and got over 15.
I tried putting some poison in their hole, but no clue if it worked. Shooting them may be fun, but you can't be out there 24/7. If you see enough to shoot some, there are a lot more you're not seeing. |

BB gun or pellet rifle is the funnest. I bait them with peanuts. The most effective is a five gallon bucket with 3 gallons of water and put a pound of sunflower seeds in it. They float and mr chippy cannot swim. Place a board walkway to the bucket ??, 3 to 4 feet long and put some sunflower seeds on it.

This is going to sound like it's not true, but we used to do it. I didn't believe it when I was told either, but darn it if it didn't work. Not 100%, but it worked.
Step 1: Have a gallon milk jug full of water near positioned near where the bastards go down in their holes. Step 2: Keep an eye out for when they go in their hole. Step 3: Quickly dump water into hole after one of the bastards runs down into it. HOLD THE JUG TO THE GROUND WHILE IT IS EMPTYING. Step 4: Watch for Bastard to run up against the stream of water into the jug. Step 5: Close jug. Step 6: End the life of the bastard with an air rifle/pistol. |

If you catch any Rat Snakes fairly close, release them near the Chipmunk nest. I released this one near my chicken coop, when I was getting overrun by mice.
