Instead of the 50 threads on different deals, lets put them all in one. That means more site resources for asking which gun for SHTF or please review my BOB.

I'm a pretty average sized dude (5'9", 210 lbs, bit chunky), but if all I had to eat was these HDRs I'd probably lose weight. By 4pm I was hungry again and I ate everything including the peanut butter, strawberry jelly and crackers. That said, something in the last bit is giving me a lot of gas. Its either the beans, peanut butter or cake. I've been banished to the couch for the night its that bad. |

Yup, just giving everyone a heads up that you'll definitely want to stash some fats and protein to supplement these. 1960 cals didn't cut it for me, it felt like breakfast and lunch. Some Beano might go a long way to keeping the spouse unit happy too. |

It's in the bulk foods section where the sugar and baking items are. Here in SW Idaho there is a large LDS population and WalMart caters to them Prices are comparable to Amazon's sale prices. Potato Shreds/Slices are $8.14, Chili Mix is $18.12 etc. You can also order online from Walmart too. |

I'm about to pull the trigger on an All American 921 canner. Amazon has it for $379, free shipping with prime.
Has anyone seen it at that price or better from another vendor, I hate supporting Amazon if there is an alternative. Lehmans has the same price plus $10 off, but then shipping is $70 which kills it. |

Looks decent, but check to see how many filter elements it comes with, and what the flow rate is per filter to see if you need additional. Reading the description of the unit it sounds like it has capability for multiple filter elements, and comes with plugs for the ports not in use.

Thanks They're similar designs/takes on water filtration, which is why I still prefer my Zerowater. A) both the Alexapure and Berkey designs use filter candles/towers (i.e. the filtering element sits in the top reservoir. As the water filters through, the water level in the reservoir drops and the bottom part of the filter sees far more use/filtration than the top part of the filter as the water level drops below it. The ZW filter screws into the underside of the top reservoir, and all the water goes through the whole filter. A more efficient design. B) replacement filters are $90 each. I buy my ZW filters un the bulk packs, when they go on sale for $10/ea or less. That's 9 x ZW filters to one of these. C) if I'm REALLY depending on the filters for water safety; if I suspect that the in-use ZW filter is compromised in any way (some kind of contamination, whether it's chemical or biological etc.), I can just toss the filter, wash the dispenser and put a brand new filter in. I keep a rotating stash of ~9 months worth of filters at my normal daily usage rate (which I could easily extend if I decided to buy even more when they go on sale). YMMV. |

Maybe also worth picking up a ZW instead. I have a Katadyn Pocket as a primary filter. That thing will let you drink out of a swamp or toilet if need be. And will last about ten years (with proper care) hydrating the three of us according to the numbers. However, I have other methods for redundancy (bleach, boil, iodine, etc.). Thanks |

I sure love our zerowater filter. I have a NIB Berkey downstairs, but have no desire to switch.

That's steep, but I doubt you will find a new one cheaper. |
