My wife buys them at our Dollar store for the kids to play with - but she gets 2 for a dollar.

Tell your dollar store they suck!

Man i wish they were 2 for a buck here. Even cheaper than dirt over in ft worth is wanting 12$ for 10.

Just ripped one open, just as bright as my ameriglo green. Plus it comes with a lanyard in each package. Would be good for tying it off and swinging it for signaling.

A few years ago I did a test of various mil-spec sticks against the halloween sticks and the china-mart sticks. the results may suprise you.

Can someone dig it out of the archive?

This is all I can find:

I did a rather extensive lightstick test a year or two ago. maybe someone could dig it out of the archive and tack it up. summary: only Ameriglo and Omniglo are worth the money. also Walmart carries a halloween packaged stick that is an Ameriglo produced military stick in a halloween wrapper for under $1 each. I think i paid .80c for them. any chinese stick generally dissapoints.

You guys are doing it wrong.

Wait until AFTER halloween.

Go to local Walmart, Target, Halloween store,  wherever, buy for 25 cents each (or less).  Some have strings on them.  Usually omniglow.

I do it every year.  Pick and choose your colors.

They get handed out to the kids during the year, and theres a stash in every vehicle and BOB.

I've got some two or three years old that still work fine, just dont last as long but I've never needed them to last for more than a few hours and they work fine for that.

Go directly to Cylume.comfor the best deal

They offer direct from manufacturer 100 count of 6 inch light sticks $66/100.  Just bought 2 cases for my FD, all were first quality.  My suppliers cant get them that cheap

All colors are avalable

Personally I keep a few in each vehicle, comes in handy if your stuck on side of road, illuminates a nighttime tire change etc.  At home usually open one up to illuminate the basement during power outages, Saves on batteries and generator use and they act as a nice nightlight in a stairway or hallway in total darkness.

FD uses them for night time ops. We have some homes that have very very long driveways with multiple homes on single entrance.  Toss one out the window like breadcrumbs to show way for others.

Also use them for occational lost hiker/person searchs in woods. Illuminate access trails, personal locators for searchers, markers for marine operations. and landing zones.  We find we go through alot throughout the year.

The store right across from my work just started stocking Cyalume's IR sticks.  $2 a pop, IIRC.  Wish my NVD hadn't gone tango uniform...

1)  Tagging CarbineKid

2)  designating the bath to the camp latrine

3)  marking the tent guys after tripping over them for the second time

4)  marking CarbineKid

5)  back of a safety vest changing tires on the side of the road

6)  did I mention finding my son after dark?  Marking myself so he can find me

7) overnight bivvy in a car (save the batteries for dexterity tasks

8)  but mostly tagging carbinekid

I have early 1990s greem .mil ones (have an NSN onthe box) that were still good when checked during the summer
