I feel like these threads were always on the top page, and although I rarely posted, I always read through them for ideas when I was sitting idle.
Searched through all the posts and the most recent one I could find archived is from 2009!!! There must be a glich in the matrix, I also noticed that it says "locked at 100", yet there's only 50 pages. Regardless! Lets kick off #3!!!! In the last month or so, I have mylared and stores in buckets 100lbs of white rice, 75lbs of white flour, and 25lbs of white sugar. And stored in a cool basement, on top of a flexi-seal coated heavy pallet, and covered with an old military blanket. |

4 more Valpro NATO gas cans are headed my way.

Went to a local garage sale that actually has things beyond baby clothes. Picked up a hand meat grinder (I already have an electric one), and a couple of blankets that appear to be military surplus. $7 for all.

Learned how to replace a house fan capacitor myself with the help of GD
I'm cooking up some home-canned corned beef to test. And I've been reading and watching stuff from Aardvark Reloading about how to homebrew primers for reloading. |

Reload on board and fits in a Glock case or other small case. Haven't found anything better/smaller. the 10/22 fits exactly in a cubby in my truck so that's why it lives there for random road trips or range visits. Not ideal for badguys, so that's why it is being replaced with a 9mm version when I can. Attached File |

If I'm going to have enough for sauce, salsa, etc for the entire year, I'm definitely going to need to plant more next year. |

It takes like 10 lbs of tomatoes to make a proper quart jar of pasta sauce. This assumes you like your sauce thick and tasty. Not watered down sugar sauce like you buy from the store. Last week we closed on our 5 acre property in the country.
Hasn't been worked in a loong time. Pasture grass 5 feet high. Met my guy to discuss putting in a driveway. Brush hog guy confirmed for Tuesday. Picked up 300 rounds of 9mm and 600 rounds of mini-mags at Academy this week. Ordered a battery powered fuel transfer pump this morning thanks to a post in GD. |

Went to doctor, on a ace inhibitor now...joy. better than a heart attack. Built a temporary chicken tractor for our 7 hens. Bought 2 more ducks, one flew the coop. Still have 2. Looking for a part time job to stock up on some things. Working 4 10's I get bored with 3 days off. Ran the little generator, need to fire up the bigger one.

View Quote thanks, I HATE glocks and I'm a fan. it's just so useful for personal defense when you don't want or think you'll need a "real" rifle. Like it fits into a regular backpack for walking around town or travel, which I do a good bit of. If I was downsizing and had to have only 2 guns, I think it would be the flux and a sig365xl. I don't love polymer like I do steel and wood, but that combo would cover everything between close contact and 100 yards. All in the space of a medium sized hardcover book. No soul though |

since last posting I've gotten, and learned how to use:
water and air compressor fillable fire extinguisher (awesome, btw we use it to clean and put out fires) 3 lanterns that take odd sized batteries just to have. One solar charges, too butane single burner camp stove. brings me up to like 9 ways to cook in my house |

Ordered more long term food preps.
Added medical supplies to my home kit. I had a really rough day at work, economic forecasts are looking rough, employer requiring a mandatory vax. I exercised for an hour - helped relieve the stress and improves mental and physical stress. |

Pasture has been bushhogged.
Bought a small Kubota - BX 2680 and trailer so I can maintain the property. Looking at doing small jobs with the tractor/ backhoe as a side hustle May be moving to a virtual job which would be a game changer. Same money. No 55 mile roundtrip. |

25 lbs of russet potatoes from Kroger for $3.95. LOL. $0.79/5lb bag is a FO PRICE.

Lumber for the chicken tractor bought and hauled. Need to get screws, hardware cloth, and break out the miter saw. Hope to have it finished by weeks end and get the fall chicks out of the garage. Should be laying by spring. Might add spring chicks, but would only do meat birds at that time.

Finished harvesting the last stuff out of the garden before a big freeze hits. Put up 800 quarts and pints this year most ever. Also harvested 1,800 pounds of potatoes.
This week I also finished getting enough wood for next year. Tomorrow I’m filling up any gasoline cans. Should be ready for winter then. |

Sold my 2014 F150 yesterday for 22500. Taking the $8000 in equity I had in it and buying a clean 1995 F250 outright for $3400. Didn’t want a truck payment anymore and I didn’t trust my 3.5 not to do something spectacularly destructive as soon as the extended warranty went out.

View Quote @NTXPoke I think the answer largely depends on you. If you really like the convenience, taste, feel, and storage life of freeze dried, AND can commit to running it a bunch, then yes, I think it's worth it. I love mine, but recognize that it's not a cost-effective prep for everybody. In my case, I HATE TVP, and have some personal recipes I really want to have as part of my food storage, so I deemed it worth it to make my own freeze-dried meats and other favorite foods. My only regret is that the large size wasn't available when I bought mine. The biggest PITA is the prep work, like peeling the carrots, browning the meat, blanching the vegetables, etc. and clean-up, but it doesn't seem to make much more work to do 16# versus 8#, so I'd like the ability to do larger batches in the freeze dryer. |

Started adding money to my wallet by cooking at home more.
I prefer eating out and never worried about the cost, but it has climbed to the point where I said screw it. Single man cooking is usually a weeks worth of 1 meals for me. I still purchase my breakfast daily due to time plus the girls there are sweet to flirt with. I eat 2 meals per day on average. |

Added another 132 lbs of hard white winter wheat to the stash in 5.5 lb LDS cans for $155 delivered.
Hope we never need it. |

Today we picked up the side of beef we had ordered and filled the freezer.
Yesterday picked up and read the book "Where there is no Doctor, a Village Health Care Handbook" that's a good one to put into your prep library. |
