....keep in shape after you've been out for a while?

I've been out since '94, but I still try to get in at least a couple of miles a day running.  I do this for a couple of reasons:

1.  Because I hunt elk every year, and hiking at 10,000 feet with all that gear is brutal.
2.  Because I don't like to watch what I eat

I get a kick out of seeing some of my friends from high school that were athletes back then, and are big as a house now

Don't get me wrong, I could still stand to drop ten or fifteen pounds, but I could still smoke just about anyone I know.

Try bulking up with weight training if you think you're too scrawny. It's what I've always done, with my height to prevent the "basketball player" physique.

I want to know who made that damn chart, you cut out all that stuff! Did you know that shooting AR's also makes you gain weight and I don't care about the weight so just send them to me.

It's a point of pride for me that I can still fit into my alphas, to say nothing about my utilities.

I won't let myself turn into a, pardon the term, fat f***.

+1.  I just got back into the gym after a four year absence.  I look like four toothpicks stuck in a wad of chewed bubble gum.

I'm workin' on gettin in better shape for my retirement. I figure, since I have to completly change my lifestyle (new, job, location, and being a civi again) I should be able to work eatin' a little healthier and more exercise into my life. It will help that I will be leavin' the 100 + degree temp behind me. More hikin'/bikin' in the outdoors.

The second half of my career I struggled with my weight.  I had a stout build to begin with.  If I had made my "ideal" weight according to those %@#*&%!!! charts I would have looked like Karen Carpenter.

I'll confess that when I retired I decided that if I wanted a Twinkie I was going to track it, corner it, kill it, and eat it.  I relaxed, probably a bit more than I should have.  I spent a couple years living a sedentary, self-indulgent lifestyle.

Now the novelty has worn off.  I'm eating better, cutting back on the wrong foods, and getting some exercise.  Things I took for granted at 25 take a lot more effort in my mid-40s.

I'm fighting a retrograde action against the ravages of time and junk food.
It's been mostly uphill lately.

I had kind of a hard time meeting the "ideal" weight on that damn chart too.  I'm kind of stocky, and usually had to get measured for body fat content.

I was artillery though, and it's funny that anytime we were humping (boxed) 105 rounds from the ammo trucks, some of the "ideal weight" guys had to take a few more breaks than us "overweight" guys.

I'm 5'10" and weighed 170 lbs when I was in the Corps. Back then I kept my body fat around 10%. I've never been a runner by nature, but I usually ran a 20-21 minute 3 mile and was able to knock out 20/80 on the pull ups and sit ups.

Now I weigh 190 lbs and had to give up running because of bad knees and lower back problems. So I cycle instead. I also lift weights a lot more than I did when I was in. My body fat is now around 14%, but I'm a lot stronger. I don't have the stamina like I used to, but I also don't plan on going on too many 20 something mile humps with a full combat load either.

I'm in my early 30's and every day I have to force myself into the gym. As much as I wish it was easy, it's an up hill battle. I would like to be back down around 10% body fat again, but at this point I just take what I can get.

When I got out in '91, I was 200 lbs over the next 14 years I ballooned up to 290. Started excercising and eating right 41/2 months ago. I am down to 240 now and my goal is to get down to 210-200. I was disgusted at being a fat ass and who was on the way to being a land manatee.

I went from getting out of breathe walking to the kitchen to running a 10 minute mile right now, working on getting it even lower.

I weight train 3 days aweek, and run 3 miles on weight days and 5 miles on non weight days.

Got off active duty in 93 (Bco 1/509 PIR) weighing about 190. I'm now about 220 and running a lot more than I used to. Being married with kids has taken it's toll.

I'm in better shape now at 39 than I was when I was in. I work out five days a week. I do a lot of tech diving and need to stay in shape. Eating good is a big part of the oveall program.
