As much as I love Ruger revolvers... Just buy an AR and make it easy on you and your wallet.

I worked for Ruger for two years (left for greener pastures), and will not own a Mini 14.
Buy an AR platform instead.

Why would Ruger pay victims of a crime when their firearm was never involved.

Didn't Ruger settle on a lawsuit filed by the victims after the DC Sniper Shooter incident back in 2002??  If they did, I'd flat out not buy anything from them.  If I'm wrong and they didn't settle a lawsuit, then I stand corrected and will edit this post accordingly.

I'm pretty sure the shooters used a Bushmaster.

I remember another friend telling me that Ruger settled a lawsuit after a shooting incident where multiple people were shot.  I can't remember which shooting incident it was... will have to do more searches on the 'net.  Edited my previous post pending further information.

[Not an attempt to hijack the OP's thread.]

Well I already own 3 AR's, was just looking for something different.  I was thinking about trying one of the target versions they have out now.  Didn't realize this was going to turn into a bashing thread.

Well, let me start over. Will this be a Ruger M-14 for duty use or personal use?

Personal, have issued LMT M16 for duty

I use an AR for duty, but have a Mini 14gb model.  IMHO much better than the ranch model.  The only time I have had issues with it, is when using non-factory.  But it runs like a dream with the factory mags.

So does anyone know about the LE discount?

Yes they do.  I emailed them about 8 months ago & was told 24%.

Is that factory direct from them to a FFL or is that standard from authorized dealers?

24.5% only if you blade at a 45-degree angle when you shoot it.

From Ruger.  This is a copy of the response they sent me.  Response:" We do offer a 24% discount for law enforcement. You can fax a purchase order to our facility in New Hampshire at 603-863-6165."

You might check to see if it's still 24% or not because like I said it was 8 months ago when I asked.  Also, when I looked online I could find the rifles & mags cheaper than what Ruger offered w/ the 24% disount.  I was interested in the Tactical model which was $921 on Ruger's site & w/ the discount it was $699.  CDNN had them for sale for $569 a couple of weeks ago so the discount wasn't really worth it.  CDNN also sells the 20rd mags for $25 & 30rd for $30 which is cheaper than Ruger's discount.

Call up a LE dealer who sells Rugers and see what is needed. I know Davidson's has a LE section and sells Rugers. I recently bought a LCP through Gulf States Distributors in AL, they may have Minis too. The LCP required a dept letter so that may be part of Rugers requirements. As mentioned you may be able to find a better deal without a LE discount so check around.
